  • Hard News: MUSIC: Lockdown Grooves,

Hello! This is worth watching while it lasts – a new documentary about Eel Pie island on the Thames, site of successive scenes that helped deliver the Yardbirds, the Stones, David Bowie, Elton John and many more. Its claim that rock music was spawned there certainly has some merit:

Warning: contains a lot of old blokes reminiscing.

There's a story about the doco here.

Have you listened to Betty Davis (Miles’ second wife)? She’s great!

She really, really was. The 2017 documentary They Say I'm Different is quite compelling – and left me thinking she deserved a lot better than she got.

I got a copy from, um, the internet, but it looks like it can be rented or bought from Vimeo with no geoblocking.

I assume methadone distribution (or modern equivalent) continues as well…

Even better, the lockdown has finally got naloxone widely distributed – because nobody wants emergency staff tied up with overdose cases.

It's remarkable how many things look sensible now ...

A sympathetic wind and I suspect, a tap on the gas, we landed at 9.02 pm, declarations, filled and signed, passports checked and an unnervingly long wait for the bags to roll down the turnstile and I was there, I had slid under the door as it slammed shut in a cloud of dust, There was an image in my head of Indiana Jones and the very real image of the reason and purpose of my determined intent. I had conspired with life, was I prepared? probably.

Fabulous. I saw you there with K on Facebook and wondered how it had happened. Thanks for the story, e hoa.

Went out for a walk today, more people walking in the neighbourhood than usual, people carefully keeping distance, walking into the street – but absolutely everyone said “hi!” and smiled

It's the same in our neighbourhood. And the really cool part of the daily bike-ride is that it's not only possible to ride down the middle of the damn road – it's the responsible thing to do!

Yes, some unexpected consequences. Less meth consumption will free up resources in EDs and acute mental health units. As people high on meth pose significant risk to health professionals that’s one safety issue that should reduce dramatically.

I think there's also the prospect of restricted access to drugs (including the legal ones) driving drug-seeking behaviour that increases transmission risks. We want to keep people stable, not throw them into withdrawal.
