  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

    For goodness sake...

Un(der) educated members of the public frequently make this mistake, but I don't expect it from an MP.

I can assure Mr Flavell that no member of the armed defenders squad did anything at all in his electorate, because no such squad exists.

Its the armed offenders squad.... because, you know, they are going after offenders who are armed...

  • Speaker: All Been Said,

    Re: Banks, Eden Park, etc.

I'm no Banks supporter, but I'm also no Rugby-Head either, and him wanting to not put rate-payers money towards Eden Park is fine in my book....

But, why did we find this out the day after he was elected?
Surely, politicians seeking election should advertise their intended policies BEFORE the election?

  • Hard News: The standing-still sweep,

    Back on the original topic...

Less than 24 hours after being elected, Banks is big-noting about "I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna do that"...

    Just like last time?

And just like last time, he's going to shockingly discover that 1) he only has one vote and cant tell the whole council what to do... and 2) even if the council agrees with him its also subject to NZ laws, which prevents it doing some stuff...

  • Hard News: One Million Tunes,

The very first time I recall seeing CD's for sale, there was only three or five titles available, and they were $45 each. I beleive Michael Jackson's "Thriller" or "Off the wall" was one of them?

And I concur with Simon, that with the exception of when they were very new, they have hovered between $35 and $30 for "full price" titles ever since... Although I would agree there was a period in the '90's where far more were discounted down to $22-$25 than is the norm these days...

I also recall my older brother rushing out to buy a CD player when one became available to Card members of Rio in High st at the bargain price of $400.... about half the price of the cheapest previously available!

  • Speaker: Silver is (not) the new black,

I thought the WHOLE POINT of an alternaitve strip (uniform) was to AVOID confusion, not generate it.

How on earth was the All Black's alternative strip more different than just plain black would have been from what the Scotts were wearing?

Did nobody think to hold them side by side before the game?

    What a balls up...

  • Radiation: Television hell,

Blackpool however - that was some appalling sub-Dennis Potter nonsense.

    Sub-Dennis Potter ? Absolutely...

But he's dead, theres no more Dennis Potter coming along.... so anything even vaugely resembling it is bloody welcome I say. I really enjoyed Blackpool.

  • Busytown: Making a hash of things,

Amy.... it depends on how far you want to take things...

Some people will be happy with "no sweatshop labour"
Others want "no sweatshop labour AND no ancient ruins desecrated"
Yet others wil want "no sweatshop labour, no desecrated ruins, and the builders who constructed the shop were not wearing leather boots"

And then, even if the boots are man-made-fibre, are they an oil derivative? And were they made with sweatshop labour? And did they drive fuel efficient vehiocles to get the non-sweatshop labour to the factory, etc etc etc....

Me... I'm going to Auckland Ikea as soon as the "opening weekend mad crowd" has gone... (which may take several months?)
