Kidding about the request but whatever you do should be miles better than the Abba/Doobie Bros covers bands they usually manage to dredge up.

The revered Paul Henry wondered last week how a show about "ugly poor people" could do so well.
I don't watch Coro, and this is not in defence of PH, (in fact can we just forget the PH aspect to this particular issue?) merely an observation about Coro (from someone who doesn't watch it, but that hasn't stopped anyone in this thread so far... ;), but you'd have to remark, wouldn't you, that it is exceptional in its success given that it's not chock full of 'beautiful' people. (quick chorus of "everything is beautiful" mashed-up with "All Creatures Great and Small" just to ensure we all accept that beauty is only skin deep or something...).
Because if you look at the other smash hit drama on TV, Home and Away (which rates ridiculously well and is on par with Coro despite being on before most people get home - long seen as TV3's not-so-secret weapon in its news ratings) is nothing but beautiful people. Then look at anything on MTV/C4.
Is it a generational thing (because the Home and Away viewership certainly skews younger than Coro, but not as young as you might think)? Are the under 30s far more superficial than those over?
I guess they can afford to be. They've still got their looks. Cocky buggers.

And oi! non-existent honour? I'll have you know...wait. Who am I kidding. I'm the stereotype
Back to scrabble, aye? A Sex Scrabble cabaret. Now that would be truly auto-erratic.

3410,
aye?
eh?

aye?
eh?
Let me be the first to declare this thread... over. :)

Bugger. Actually, I meant 'ayee', in the vernacular ;-)
Sorry Damien, I didn't see your comment.

3410,
Okay. :)

Righto. I wave the mighty sword of closure ...

Ha, I wasn't being literal Russ - just pointing out that when a conversation is reduced to literally two people grunting at each other, it probably ain't going anywhere.
But just in case someone's been away for a day or so and wants to have their tuppence worth, it's still open for business...

Right, might this be my cue to heroically bridge threads with this, just as a reminder of what hating on the media really looks like?
“First, if the peccadilloes of the sour, seedy journalists responsible for headlines of this kind were exposed, they would make for far more interesting reading than Mr. Jones's penchant for porn.
"Second, and more importantly, when did these self-same sour, seedy, self-righteous sanctimones ever give a toss about misuse of taxpayer money? These quacking travesties who call themselves journalists are foremost among the advocates of compulsory, coercive welfarism and punitive taxation—i.e., theft from the productive to subsidise the unproductive/reproductive.
They are ardent advocates of such theft for purposes they, in their infinite arrogance, deem worthy [...] veritable print and television arm of the Labour Party [...] champions of theft [...] far more obscene than any video [...] suck blood and flourish [...]
I've tried to convey my gradual oxygen-deprival swings in and out of consciousness towards the end.
In summary I don't think anyone ought to settle for trying to laugh at fake libertarians.
-
Shit, "the unproductive/reproductive" is a great phrase, you have to hand it to them. And then, seeing as their hands will be busy holding the "it" you just handed to them, POW, you punch them right in the face.

Ah, so coercive force is your only possible response to the Truth? You brutish lefties are all the same.

Yup.

Hmmm as a smoker I pay extra tax (more so now thanks to the Gummint) - I guess this makes me a raging communist.
-
This seemed apposite.

Who says that house-pets aren't libertarians?
-
Is it just me, or does that cartoon sort of sum up several threads over the past week? No? Ok, just me. Carry on.

I think my cat's behaviour could be classified as such... doesn't force anyone to feed her, simply accepts that as she doesn't have the means of production begging is the only option left open, she's ruthlessly individualist, only seeking company on her own terms and for her own benefit... and she always referrs to me as a commie pinko islamofascist lesbian.
(and yes, now we neatly tie into Russell's "about a cat" thread).

Sounds very much like Catbert to me.
If you want the ultimate in unintentional libertarian humour, this post-Battle of Seattle post takes the cake. Unless Garfield has already gobbled it up.

(sorry everyone -- this is a message to Joe Wylie who's contributed to this thread! I can't find his email address anywhere)
Are you the Joe Wylie who created the cover art for Patea Maori Club's Poe E? If so, could you please email me at philip.armstrong@canterbury.ac.nz? I want to ask your permission to use the image in a book I'm writing. Thanks!
(p.s. I totally agree with your comments about Paul Henry!)
-
Guilty as charged / I have that honour.
Appreciate your interest, please check your mail. -
