Yes I did. Impressions were somewhere way back when it happened.(a blog at the time that I don't remember the title of ) Generally, it was fan fukin great. Apparently I haven't aged :) Proud Scum then and now, still my fav of the lot. Spelling Mistakes, still the consummate performance, but in all, good for those of us who had been there before. The Features weren't heading in that direction so for me, I didn't like. Terrorways felt really old school, but Scavs were fav of people I went with. Total buzz. Also Headless chooks were liked by some I knew and weren't by others I knew, but a good muso friend wandered in and commented "same as they always were. I think that sums them up. Merry and Happy daylight :)

Balaena Bay is on the way to the airport between Oriental Bay and Evans Bay - tucked in a sheltered sandy (by Wgtn standards) little bay.

Lets be clear - Global Warming IS a political myth, and Kyoto is the tool that propogates the myth. We need to be concentrating on studying the data being collected, and watching the trends that this data generates.
There is little doubt humans and industrialisation are having an effect on our planet.
The degree, and long-term effect, are largely unknown.
This debate just reinforces my opinion of how little we all know about this hugely complex subject.Er, yeah ...

Am I the only person who'd find the Herald's annual "cheer up, fuck you" campaign a little easier to take if it hadn't so remorselessly spend the last eleven and a half months trying to scare the crap out of you?
And it's relatively acceptable face -- Colin James' column -- contains the enchanting euphemistic sign off today: "This is my last column for The Herald. The slot has been reassigned." Feh...

And, yes, Better Half and I went to see Australia last night -- and while it won't be making my top ten list for this or any other year, it was a relatively inoffensive way to be told white people really really suck. It just wasn't that bad. Sorry.

Time for an 'MSM' grizzle. Could the mainstream media journalist please stop describing Mellory Manning as a 27 year old prostitute, when she could be more accurately described as a dead 27 year old person, that had been engaging in prostitution when she was murdered.
I was pleased with 3's report on her funeral the other night when they talked to her brother about how she'd bought them Christmas presents and how they'd be dealing with missing her - just like she was a real proper person. Much less impressed with Stuff's sterling headline: "Murdered prostitute had criminal record". Still even they've come around, they used her name and everything.
But. We do live in a country where the police work hard to solve the murders of prostitutes and the public actually try to help. Given some of the stories I've read this year, I'm deeply grateful for that.

Craig, I do feel kind of soiled like Mr Litterick must do more regularly but as Russell notes it was a particularly concentrated collection of loopiness. A boiled down Act/Libz echo chamber, if you will. There was even a post there or on another page suggesting that an "Atlas Day" be established to honour all those selfless business owners shouldering the full weight of economic progress. They really do sound like spoiled teen boys who never grew up.

Colin James leaving means one less Herald page to visit for me. Along with those senior journos jumping ship to the dark side of PR, if they don't watch it they'll go the way of the Listener. Maybe we'll see an increase in stories about mortgages, choosing private schools and worrying about your health..

I agree - and bloody RNZ have just done it again while I'm writing this. The fixation on Mellory's job reminds me of the way Emma Agnew was a Deaf woman in every report, long after just her name would have done fine. I'm very impressed that TV3 subtitled every story right to the end so Emma's community had a better chance of following it - unlike the state-owned broadcaster who frankly shouldn't get a choice about that. It's great that she was recognised as part of a tight-knit community who share our country's third official language. But I would have appreciated seeing her labelled with some of her other qualities - and recognised as a wonderful young leader, full stop.
I'm also glad our Police do a great job of bringing closure for the families in these tragic circumstances. I was touched when Mellory's brother talked about opening christmas presents from her. Tough time of year for some. Makes me grateful for family and friends. Wishing you all a damn fine New Year in case I don't wangle a net connection over the next few days.

And if it gets you that pissed off -- and you know it will -- why bother? Seriously. It's not really a topic where I'm interested in sloppy seconds from fanatics on either end at the best of times, and I've really got more pleasurable ways of inducing a cardiac event and/or dangerously high blood pressure.

I remember. The guy who inspired the taunt "See you at the bottom of Huka Falls" when some oick disagreed with a cricket umpire's decision. To be fair, it wasn't cricket umpiring that seems to have lead to the poor guy's downfall. I presume you're referring to his other hobby.

To change the subject rather drastically, I have one more Wellington beach to report on. Princess Bay today was hot and beautiful and while some of us sat in the shade on the grass below the cliff others happily swam in that intense Cook Strait water.
