  • giovanni tiso,

Hey maybe now that Indian has the series we can win the last game? Nah, probably not.

Did Vettori really say that if NZ wins tomorrow then the series is squared on account of the two 20/20 games? That sounded a a bit desperate to my ear.

  • Max Call,

    I dunno...
    Tauranga stadium (IMO) is rubbish.
also in Winter/Spring it is not ideal beach weather and there is NOTHING else to do in Tauranga

And if you want to see the All Blacks play the best advice is to not live in the South Island.

But they don't care, they get Robbbbbie Deans back!

  • Emma Hart,

However one of the commentators (not sure which one) correctly identified Cumulonimbus clouds and knew the abbreviation was Cb.

Mark Richardson. But I think it was his mate Andrew Mulligan who summed it all up for me when he said that normally when "our team" is getting this badly spanked you get a bit cranky. But with India, you find yourself sitting back and thinking 'bugger me, that was beautiful'.

As a mainlander, I care about as much about the Rugby World Cup as the NZRFU apparently intended me to. Fair enough.

  • giovanni tiso,

Because it is. Sometimes the Aussies play that way too - Warne, Gilchrist - but on the whole they tend to be more ruthlessly efficient then artistic. Plus you hear their captain speak... even when the content of what is saying boils down to "we admnistered to these guys a right old spanking", it comes off with such class. You never hear that coming out of Ponting or Smith or whomever the captain of England happens to be on that given tour.

  • Richard Irvine,

There was a great comment on Cricket With Balls about Sehwag - apparantly he says "missed 4' and 'missed 6' when his team mates defend or leave deliveries. He simply sees the game differently to everyone else. He's in that Gilchrist / Klusner group of being just waaay out there in style and attitude.

Vettori knew we were done for v early on on Wednesday night, OK the weather didn't help, but woah - that game will be a real low point for Dan and the team.

How are we looking for the Saturday of the Welllington test, team? I'm keen as, hopefully the weather will be kind...

Oh, and seeing this is 'blatant thread-jack Friday', do any PA readers have any good 'meeting the famous' stories for the Stalkipedia?

  • Mike Graham,

The real kick in the sensitive bits is the 9pm start time for the big games.

and really frustrating if you have a young kid who, in the view of his parents, is only just old enough to watch a 7:30pm game live. I think that the games in question are at the weekend, so in theory the kids can sleep in, but I also struggle to keep awake past 10:30pm!

I know that in the total scheme of things that children don't make up a huge percentage of the viewing audience, but you would hope that when the Cup is held in your country you would hope that they could watch the games live.

I also wonder about the resource consents at Eden Park - don't events have to finish soon after 10pm?

Yes, they're going to shorten the games - hadn't you heard?

Also the terms have changed so kids will be on holiday during the cup (to help with traffic issues)

  • Kyle Matthews,

And if you want to see the All Blacks play the best advice is to not live in the South Island. The All Blacks will play in Auckland thrice, and Wellington and Hamilton.

I'm sure a few months ago they were talking about NZ playing in a NZ wide pool, so that the maximum number of NZers would get to see them.

Now we've got all the pool games in the North Island, and most likely a Chch quarter final for them. Which will cost $100+ per ticket?

And Aucklanders get three chances to see them? Are they all washing their hair two out of three Saturday nights?

If I was a person who would actually pay that much to see a live game, I'd be pissed.

    lol!

The 9pm starts are also for the games that can go to extra time. I hope Veolia can find some train drivers prepared to work past midnight!

  • Naly D,

Kyle, add on an extra 0 to that figure would ya? Rumour has it $1400 is gonna be the cheapest. That's apparently gonna get ya a game between 'minnows' and another game with a big name team.

  • Mike Graham,

    From the EPNA site:

    9. The number of night-time rugby, cricket or similar type sporting events (requiring the use of lights) shall be limited 16 in any calendar year, with games being scheduled to finish no later than 9.05pm (for rugby) and 10.00pm (for cricket).

    11. There shall be no night-time games on Sundays

I'm not sure how up to date this is, but it looks like they'll be playing 2 minutes each way, with a 1 min half-time break for the 1st semi-final, and the 2nd semi-final and final will be postponed!

<still believing that they can't be that evil> Surely not! I can't see anyone paying $1400 to see Fiji vs Africa 1 while sitting on the grass bank in Rotorua.

France will field a B team for the pool game, right? No real reason to do anything else.

I think it will also largely depend on whether we still have an economy, and if so in what shape.

Warriors looking like a sellout on Sat night. First for an opening game since the inaugral 1995 game against the Broncos.

The Warriors management have got it right, reasonbaly priced tickets, loads of families and fill the stadium.

  • Edward Siddle,

i quite like late kickoffs myself. fewer clashes with what my wife watches on tv, and my daughter probably in bed by then.

on the other hand, I've never really liked night rugby as a spectacle, and it probably isn't that great for taking the game to young folk who do like it (unlike my little girl) so....perhaps they could consider a few 9am kickoffs (or even earlier)? presumably would work out ok for the european and the americas tv market (bit rough for the aussies and Asia but you can't win 'em all), you get to play in daylight, hopefully less problems with post match drunkenness. If it's good enough for the under 10s to play at that time of day....

  • Mike Graham,

less problems with post match drunkenness

but there would be pre-match drunkenness as the all-nighters stagger from the night-clubs in the city along New North Road to Eden Park.

I thought that was finals tickets, which they were predicting would mostly be 4 figure sums.

Quarter finals, particularly the 3 not involving NZ, should be substantially cheaper.

Fantastic, Hadyn. Those are obviously part of the disabled seating area - no legs, no legroom. Badoom tish .
