  • LegBreak,

    HG, you haven’t been watching.

    It’s not the Super 14, it’s the Super XIV.

    And if that’s not pompous, I’m not sure what is.

  • LegBreak,

    Oh, and don’t be shy in reaching for the phone and plastic for the fire appeal during tonight’s match. It’s the least we can do for them.

    Just remember, none of the money goes to Haddin.

  • giovanni tiso,

    The Sevens is a pretty cool event and probably does bring in a lot of people will to spend fistfuls of cash on shiny trinkets and booze.

    And prostitutes, according to an enthusiastic DomPost report from last week that I can't be bothered digging for. They bring them in from out of town.

    Just remember, none of the money goes to Haddin.

    That line should be included in every charity appeal anywhere in the world.

  • Emma Hart,

    Once again cricket will take it's rightful place behind rugby, it had a good three months at the number one slot and now it's back to being the "other sport".

    This kind of thing is why you have the flu, you know.

    Sure, and does how much damage to the city, with the cleaning up vomit, graffiti, and at least 4 smashed car windows in my street alone?

    Even if it is I would refuse to write it, I have a hatred for Roman Numerals. And because you might think I'm kidding: it's because the Roman's did nothing for mathematics except develop a widely used yet completely useless numerical system.

    They say that for every sports event in the world. For the Superbowl Tampa had to overturn it's "no lap dancing" law

    Emma's right, every slight you make on the gentleman's sport results in yet another new virus for your body to try and learn :P

    And folks since it's too damn hot & humid to sleep anyway, you may as well stay up and support the black caps as they try and humiliate the Aussies even more. Although even if the Aussies win the series that fact that they've lost two to [sharp intake of breath] the kiwis is enough satisfaction for me.

    So nice to see McCallum batting down the order, he is such a good batsman when the bowlers are a bit tired and the ball is a bit softer.

    HG,

    I share your hatred for Roman Numerals.

    Only surpassed by my dislike of organisations who use Roman Numerals in their marketing in a shabby attempt to create the illusion of respectability.

    One wonders why. Was the law stopping people from having a lap dance, despite the law? Were there people sitting in other parts of America saying to themselves "I was totally going to go to Tampa and spend squillions on Superbowl weekend, but no lap dances, so I'm staying at home with my wife"?

    Or was lap dancing the end zone dance of choice for the winning team?

  • Chockasunday,

    The Sevens are a lot of fun. Disappointed I couldn't get a ticket this year ...

    When were you going to write about the Phoenix, Haydn?

    Would you like a guest blogger to write a column for you?

  • giovanni tiso,

    And on the subject of Roman numerals. Aren't they used nowadays for ordinal numbers only? So, yes, Superbowl XLIII to denote the 43rd edition of the Superbowl, and Rocky III for the third instalment of the Rocky series... But Super XIV means the fourteenth super.

  • Hadyn Green,

    @Kyle:
    That is a good question. I think it was maybe a ban they had put down for Superbowl Week and then decided to repeal but it may go some way to explaining this sign. His wife might be a stripper.

    @Chockasunday
    Why, what did they do?

    @Giovanni
    You're right but I don't think rugby or cricket gets it as you often First XVs and Prime Minister's XIs

    Speaking of Superbowl XLIII, we never got to hear Hayden's thoughts on the Steelers' tremendous victory.

    @Hadyn: Maybe chocka is referring to the fact that the Phoenix can't keep any of their [in some cases good] players.

  • Kyle Matthews,

    Also, mounted police charge

    The insistence of some police forces around the world using horses for crowd control is really stupid. They're incredibly difficult to keep under control, they spook in crowds, loud noises, and they don't like sirens.

    Elephants would make about as much sense.

    I would LOVE IT if my taxpayer dollar went to Elephant-based team policing. Love it.
