“Tempora is the first 'I save everything' approach ('full take') in the intelligence world. It sucks in all data, no matter what it is, and which rights are violated by it. ... Right now, the system is capable of saving three days' worth of traffic, but that will be optimised. Three days may perhaps not sound like a lot, but it's not just about connection metadata. 'Full take' means that the system saves everything. If you send a data packet and if makes its way through the UK, we will get it. If you download anything, and the server is in the UK, then we get it.”
If New Zealand is running something similar I wonder how they'd be doing so without infringing section 92A of the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act 2008.

Does anyone know if Pacific Fibre found that certain "security issues" may have been a factor in their pulling out?

General Key.
This picture, believe it or not comes from JK’s Google+ page, its the header image…Martin Niemöller said, for those of the “If you’ve done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide” brigade…
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist. Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.These days its “Terrorists” not “Communists”
These days Its not “Reds under the bed” its “Redlight runners” and the cameras that trap them.
Thomas Jefferson said – that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.Trouble is JK can’t pronounce Vigilance or Surveillance let alone tell the difference. -
I found the picture while looking at this guy
The one that the Nice Nick Smith, in his Green shirt and tie, tells us is behind the Hole in Hobiton
If you know how Google+ works this may make you think you smell a rat in that hole.
But wait... there's more... -

Unlike a notional Communist threat, however, people who run red lights are unarguably responsible for deaths, injuries, and many millions of dollars in cost to society.

Egalitarianism suffers when the red carpet industry is booming.

I put this on t'other thread but felt it could pop over here too

kind of handy if you say what it is.

I cannot site the article but I read the other day that a total of 3 people were killed last year buy "Red Light Runners". Tragic as that may be I doubt the "Millions of Dollars" tag.
I did, however, question the real motive behind cameras located at major intersections, inevitably linked to international intelligence gathering equipment, legally or not.kind of handy if you say what it is.
I know what you mean Sacha, all that clicking on links is so tiresome and curiosity is such a bore.

Toby Manhire sums it up beautifully. "GCSB urine furores" indeed.

Three fatalities is $12m using NZTA's model for determining the value of life for deciding if road safety upgrades are worth doing. So, yes, "millions of dollars". And that's just the cost of the deaths, not any of the dozens of injuries, or the costs imposed by impacts on traffic in the aftermath of a serious crash.

Strange, that is almost the same as 12 lifetimes wages for the average worker. Do you think we are being ripped off?
Sacha...

Funny you should say that, have a click on my website link, if you have the time.

There has been mention in comments on Audrey Young's article today that there is a protest in Aotea Square and other centres throughout NZ on July 27th (next Saturday) for anyone interested. They do that # thing

So Dunne just couldn't resist selling out. Utterly worthless. Not surprising, but no less infuriating. His response to Key should've been "I'll vote with the majority, but I will not be the majority."

Ohariu gonna live with yourself...
Dunne just couldn’t resist selling out...
The Honourable, yeah Right, Peter Dunne-us-down...
...and Key will claim his dodgy 'nation's-mandate' again, one vote over the line, sigh...
There'll be no getting that genie back in the bottle...
Ears rock?
The Age had a good article on Pine Gap (the Alice Springs Five Eyes listening base) at the weekend... -
Pine Gap, typical of those secret squirrel Aussies. At least we are open and honest about ours down in Spy Valley, it even has a winery named after it.

Rise Up! Take to the streets!
Press Release:
Protesting the GCSB + TICS Bills on the 27th July NationwideOn the 27th of July, 2013 there will be a nation wide protest taking place in regards to the GCSB and TICS bills. All those taking part feel these bills are a huge injustice and violation of our basic human rights. Groups in at least 7 centres are gearing up to march in protest of this scandalous erosion of privacy granted us in the NZ Bill of Rights Act. The protest is being organised by the Stop The GCSB Bill community and its over 12'500 supporters and counting and the vast majority of kiwis that understand the bill goes too far and we need to seriously re-examine the role, power and scope of our espionage agencies.
This government refuses to accept the advice of the NZ Law Society, the Human Rights Commission and such notable figures such as Dame Anne Salmond. On Saturday, July 27th, the New Zealand Public add their voices to those experts in telling this government that this legislation does not represent the New Zealand Spirit.
In 1984, a pertinent year to this legislation, the New Zealand government stood up against Nuclear proliferation and opposed irrational fear. Today we need to do the same and let cooler heads rule, and hold on to our privacy against the irrational fear of terrorism that this government keeps citing. We are busy in our lives, looking after the kids, getting the groceries in and earning a living.
We shouldn't have to put anything on hold to say no, because the people we elect should be acting in our interests to begin with. This is a spontaneous movement for every New Zealander and all are
encouraged and welcome to make a stand. We will represent the nation, but the public can also represent themselves. Bring your banners, your placards, yourselves and your friends and family. This is a family friendly, peaceful protest.

I really like the juxtaposition of the kiwi 1984 and the orwellian.
