Well, I can top you all. Never heard of the buggers.
pretty sure I burnt you a copy onto a 78 at one stage auntie jackie.

how long does the Russell-Robbery-Off continue? It's been months now, hasn't it?
I'm conducting a media experiment.

If you ask me nicely, I can provide some trivia / an anecdote about their appearances at these venues...
I'd like to hear that, please

mint condition vinyl AK79 or something?
They re released that on cd with bonus tracks seriously harming the value of the original vinyl version, but kudos for the reference, more obscure would have been the sausage records (four stars comp) which is ridiculously rare, even when it came out and houses a couple of bands which feature fran walsh of LOTR fame.

Don't know who the aging drunks were that got your attention at Friday's gig, Russell, but I do know that it was my 20-year-old daughter who ended up KOed on the floor after taking a blow to the head from a couple of youths scuffling at the front, just before Collapsing Cities came on. She was picked up and taken outside. Recovered enough to watch safely from the back but she's left with bruising all down one side of her face today. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic night and it's great to see how the generations can mix and mingle at an event like this, and to see how the older musicians are fostering the up and coming talent.

Yikes. I missed that, obviously. It was packed and lively down the front, but it's rare that you'd ever see a fight there.

Actually, it was more like the young bucks fostering the veteran ...

Yeesh. That whole music geek Obscurity-of-My-Reference-Is-Greater-Than-The-Obscurity-Of-Yours Dick-Measuring-Thing up there? I mean, I'm sure I'm not exempt, since I'm fairly geeky myself, but it kinda gets old, man. I really try to avoid it. I'm not into music in order to try to intimidate other people with My Awesome Knowledge.
That being said though, dude, if I write 'vinyl AK79', that is probably an implication that I already know that it was released on CD. And that I own it. In both formats. KTHXBAI.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was talking to Buzz from Voom earlier on in the night at the same gig about how much those who are the creative forces behind these bands stake on their music.

if I write 'vinyl AK79'
duly noted as was the original geekness of the reference.

I heard about the fight. It's not the sort of thing that usually happens at the Kings Arms. I think a lot of the audience were not those who regularly go to gigs. I was irritated that so many talked through Mr Saunders' set and that so many were so drunk.

Ah! Shit!
Sorry Lynda, I got distracted and mistakenly edited your post in the course of attempting to reply to it (I was fixing up your quoting and just kept typing). The reply is below, but the rest of it's gone!
Sorry!

It's an interesting point. I'm quite encouraged by the fact that just-gotta-do-it creative individuals are finding ways to make music their job these days, often by sharing supporting players.
I talked to Connan (from the Moccasins) a while ago, and he's able to support himself in London, mostly from his publishing income. I presume having the Reduction Agents' '80s Celebration' on Eagle vs Shark was good for James Milne. Dudley Benson is off to Britain. And Liam Finn, well, he's doing really well:

that's scary - I'm Aunty Jackie to 16 people, and I'm pretty sure you aren't one of them.

but it kinda gets old, man.
Not for some people.
