  • Yamis,

    Careful indeed.

I found the original thread, all 53 pages of it about ten minutes ago. By and large I think people were commenting on what was being reported in the media and it was fairly civil towards him. Just not so civil towards each other at times ;)

It does seem strange that he was talking about clearing his name. Did he do that?

Also going after people who basically slagged him as a broadcaster seems ridiculous. That's purely personal opinion. Far removed from making factually incorrect statements and accusations.

    anyway, wrong thread.... :)

  • ScottY,

Ah, but how many bloggers can afford that level of lawyer to fight him?

Indeed. Veitch's defence has always been well funded. But he has probably spent just as much on PR.

  • Rich Lock,

Although by the same token I was hoping for more tales of debauchery. What's with this civilised and urbane nonsense?

Things did get a bit out of hand when the hot-buttered dwarves escaped from their cage, but we managed to round them up fairly quickly.

  • Judy Callingham,

Dunleavey argues that our mid-70s of two state channels running independently, one Wellington-centric, one Auckland-centric, might well have been the golden age of NZ television.

Philip, I'm inclined to agree. This is my memory, and Trish talked to many other people who were around at the time. TVNZ had a drama department, which had a fair budget and a degree of autonomy. It was run by experienced, mature people, who made the decisions, cared about the wider audience and didn't worry about ratings. That's how we got The Governor and other quality dramas which now would have trouble making it past commissioning editors, because they wouldn't be seen as an instant winner with the 18-45 age group.

And don't get me started on Muldoon's bullying...

Dwarves - another thing to hate Tolkein for.

And Rich, we're not allowed to call them dwarves any more, remember?

  • Mark Harris,

You can hardly call them "persons of stature"!

  • ScottY,

I believe the appropriate term to use is "little people"

Although "hot-buttered little people" doesn't quite work.

  • Rich Lock,

Dwarfs (or Little People) are people who are of short or dwarf stature for specific genetic reasons.

    Dwarves-with-a-v are the hi-ho-hi-ho-very-fast-over-short-distances fantasy-only variety.

(I do exist IRL, though, because someone originally from Italy is my Facebook friend. And Kyle went to school with me! Didn't you, Kyle?)

I can indeed confirm that Danielle was real up until about November 1991. She might have turned into an AI programme or a zombie since then however.

  • Sacha,

My colleagues in the hot-buttered community report that they are unoffended by any of the terms bandied about so far.

It should however be noted that I have made up for my sad non-attendance last night by following our host's lead and sampling te Talisker o Point Chev, so my reasoning is not to be relied upon.

I broke the toilet door. Well, I didn't break it, it was more that the handle came off in front of my very eyes. Does that count? And Linda? Good girl.

For that, I suspect Russell would be tempted to schedule a special gathering in your rohe.

Don't see why not, they hold McGillicuddy gatherings there. Seems like the very place for whisky and fun.
