  • bob daktari,

oh cool cheers for the zip file!

I like dance music and all things associated with that... but I rarely dance... I'm a foot tapper head mover but not a let it all out kinda guy (repressed white guy styles)

Today I've been desk sitting (dancing in my world) to this Greg Wilson set, which kicks off with a yet to be released track entitled Keiths Two Teeth on Auckland label Huhu (they doing good stuff)

    https://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/festival-no-6-portmeirion-14

In my time pushing play on record players in clubs I aimed my sets at getting people to drink more, dance if you want to but I want my crowd well lubricated... easiest way to do this was to play music they didn't like but I did, needless to say I wasn't booked that often

  • Nora Leggs,

With you there Russell. I'm a compulsive dancer. Though (with great difficulty) I do manage to restrain myself in the vege shop where the radio always seems to be playing "Don't stop till you get enough".

  • Richard Stewart,

Dancing for me requires a state of mind that can't be turned on at a whim. Although there are certainly certain 'social lubricants' known to assist...
I found this clip from the early 60's and couldn't help thinking that you don't really see this any more - what looks to be three generations at a family gathering all having a wonderful shared experience. I don't know if this happens very much now, as it's nearly impossible to find a style of 'dance music' that appeals across the generational divide.

  • Dan Horne,

My epiphany came watching the high school reunion in Grosse Pointe Blank. No one had progressed beyond their 80s moves. I remember thinking "Oh ... My .. God ... that's how I still dance." I've never been on the floor since.

Since then, I've seen the Eddie Murphy stand-up routine where he illustrates how white people dance. It hurt cos it was so true.

  • Martin Lindberg,

Any definition of "dancing fool" needs to include the final scene in Claire Denis' film Beau Travail.

  • Tom Beard,

I used to think that remixing Blue Monday was like giving the Taj Mahal a shiny new paint job: sacrilegious and pointless. But when I heard Hardfloor's version ... oh my lord, get me to a dancefloor!

    Whirling dervishes rejoice...
No need to Sufi in silence,
at last Richmond has an oasis in a desert of bad coffee & food - The Persian Kitchen (ex-Addington) has just re-opened post-quake, at 325 Stanmore Rd (where Henry Africa's used to be - entrance off Avalon St)
    - and it tastes good!

My sister keeps her coffee grinder in a pantry cupboard to muffle the noise when it is running. If you open and close the door rhythmically you can get quite a good electronica beat going.
Try. Record. Post results. Offer a prize for most "liked" submission. :-)

Back when I used to drive, I once drove across the crest of the hill into the blazing sunset right as the build hit on that track. That was quite a magical moment.

  • Alan Perrott,

enjoyed a wee bit of solo rug cutting to this last night -

    almost too cool.

and I'm not so hot on coffee grinders, but the indicator light in the car has a certain snap to it when it finds the groove.

  • Danielle,

A few months ago my husband and I received an invitation to dinner based on our move-busting at a party. Apparently the exact words were "we need to invite them - the dancing couple". Our immense dorkiness is finally good for something! (It may also have helped that the other half was dressed as a priest at the time.)

I like a good hiphop one-hit-wonder for some bopping around:

Or even a non-one-hit-wonder (I am both sad and glad I can't find the actual video for this song, which is literally rump-shaking. Whew):

Is that Zappa link working for anybody else?. Its weird. While I was posting the link kept redirecting to other youtube videos that others posted before me, now it just won't play. What gives eh?.

My Sunbeam Café Series coffeebeast makes a hideous rhythmic grinding pumping sound whenever it's pushing water or steam through anywhere. But once you figure out it's the dirtiest dubstep grunt this side of Mt Eden, just set the espresso and the steam going at the same time and not only will you get a great coffee... let's just say kids be dancing.

All three of them, and daddy, in our jammies.

Their mummy usually takes this as a signal to go out for a run.
