I don't plan to attend the CWC but I will be there at Hagley Ovel, right from the first ball on Boxing Day. Hoping the sponsor's beer is half-way decent but not expecting much.
I don't like cricket, I love it...
In a year of favourites, my fav artist this year, who incidentally does play Dreadlock Holiday live when the mood suits, is Aldous Harding. Every show at the Porthole or wherever was different - and often threw up the unexpected! Here's No Peace

One of the main reasons I moved from Spotify to Rdio over a year ago was the interface- both the web site and iOS apps (that and the fact the app worked as remote when playing Rdio on my PC to the home system. It is sometimes laggy with new releases, and feels a little lonely with many less friends to interact with (you're all still over on Spotty) but apart from that it's still a much more pleasant experience IMO.

Mmm, iTunes isn't really the best, even at that. Media Monkey has features that crap all over it, including a very powerful autotag and album download feature.
The problem is, some of those cool features and the best UI skins are components you have to download, install, and configure. While Media Monkey isn't open source, it's evidently based on something like that, and has the drawbacks of a crappy default UI and a bunch of fiddly moving parts. If they came up with a "packaged" version that looks good off the bat, and with a well-curated set of default plug-ins, I'm sure they'd do better.
Add me too to the bunch of people who finds the Spotify UI annoying as hell. And I work in IT.

I recall seeing the original Slowdive in a grubby little pub in Willseden Green ca. 1990. The bass player lost his cool that night, smashed his bass, drove it into the stage. They were the wunderkids of the moment along with MVB and Lush.
While checking out (yet again) Russell's fav 'Christmas shopping tune', I happened upon an upload from earlier this year, a segment of an excellently recorded live show by Saints' contemporaries, Radio Birdman.(live at the Marryatville Hotel, I think in Adelaide). Closing track is a cover of Stooges' Search & Destroy.

I admit, Apple's weird design choices in iTunes get frustrating -- they broke search pretty badly. So I'm giving Swinsian a go. It does support AirPlay, but I can't find any way of controlling it with a remote app on my phone, which is a bit of dealbreaker.

was anyone at the last of Lawrence Arabia's gigs at Golden Dawn last night? Was the first time I've ever banged out the national anthem in a pub with gusto then bonus points for kicking off with the Dog's Show theme and closing with the Goodnight Kiwi tune. Another round of guest vocalists a-go-go too, Liam Finn (banged out a stonking Counting the Beat, my song of the night), Dave Dobbyn (two tracks incl Outlook for Thursday - apparently under duress but he kicked out the jams), Don McGlashan (Marsha and The Heater), then Neil Finn (History Never Repeats and I Got You).
Full credit to the lads for learning 65 tracks in a month.

That sounds brilliant. It was a shame to have missed it, but I was a bit Golden Dawned-out from the night before -- and I was DJing at a party, which turned out to be a whole bundle of fun.

they just made a live EP. Beautiful folksy stuff from the ’Naki. Have a listen for free on Bandcamp, and if you wanna buy, it’s only eight bucks. Bandcamp lets you buy and send as a gift

otherwise, yeah you did miss out. it was a rambunctious evening of high spirits with an added dose of something I haven’t quite identified. over the four weeks it’s felt like it meant something even if it’s simply a reflection of the spirit that Matthew C has imbued in the place. further thought is necessary. anyway, would have been grand to have seen you there. -

I recall hearing this form used regularly by Jeremy Wells in his earlier (TV) shows. Taranaki has four syllables. Never heard anyone say they're from or its from the 'Watu or the 'Rapa. If my home city was officially known by its Maori name, then it could also be the 'Tahi?! The 'Church simply doesn't work. But this does!

Run the Jewels playing the Studio on K Rd Jan 10 at 8pm with Joey Bada$$, (Wellington the night before). If you like Hip Hop in Wellington or Auckland you HAVE TO see this. If you love Hip Hop and are within commuting distance this could be worth the effort.
