And, of course, it was never released as a CD.
I guess the licenses just ran out.
It arrived at a perfect time in NZ. EMI (who distributed Arista then) were taken by surprise and it used to go in and out of stock all the time as I (vaguely) recall.

Is that common? Guess I'd always assumed they were long-term contracts.

But what Chch had was Tony Peake, who was running the UBS record store and using their academic exception
Peake's academic exception didn't do much for my studies! Changed my life though.

It depends on the deal but a thing like this is usually 2 or 3 years. Either way, it would have most likely expired before CDs arrived.
I've always tried to clear stuff for the duration of the release so it's open ended but majors usually won't even consider it.

My filthy old man asks if you've never heard of a whore frost eh?

I had "That Summer" - the one with the Swimming Pool - was a great party dance album, we thrashed it in our flat, new all the words, excellent combination of tracks, led me into lots of new music.
-
I suppose this wouldn't be out of place then?

My partner left school in... 77? and got a job in Beggs in Dunedin (still open, but only doing instruments now I believe) and was somehow bringing new music from the UK - not sure how. She was all in the punk scene so was selling it to friends and bandmates.
