It's only a stereotype if it isn't true, and in my case it pretty much was.
Reminds me of a Lloyd Cole lyric; "the reason it's a cliche is because it's true" (from It's a long way down, from his debut solo album).
More angsty-boy music; it's like a stereotype/cliche squared

There are stereotypes, and then there are truisms. Just saying.

Music, then.

What is depressing is that most of his friends seem to like '80s power ballads (Bon Jovi, Poison etc...) and ACDC. WTF is up with that?
Your niece and nephew used to love It's a Long Way to the Shop and Highway to Hell when we were in Kuwait, I never had a problem with it (er, seeing as it was me playing it ahem). Am now facing having to get the oldest to Wellington because Trivium is playing ahead of Disturbed - this is a heavy blow I'm doing my best to take as something other than a personal insult and declaration of bad parenting. I blame inappropriate peer influences...
Motorhead doing 'God Save the Queen'. Because why wouldn't you?
I hadn't seen this and probably wouldn't have if it wasn't posted here, so ta very much. One thought occurred - Jones and Lydon are way better at this song than Motorhead, which says a shitload about why they are awesome deities of music, really.
The Saints’ ‘Know Your Product’. Hear the horns and rejoice, people:
I did! Ta very much twicely.

#nowplaying [2]:New tracks from 50 Foot Wave (that's Kristin Hersh's punky side-project, btw). Spiky.

I just have the need to write something down. Please ignore this. Please don't respond to it. It’s only really for my eyes. I can’t write it on twitter or facebook because the dear friend I am writing about would see it, and that would just make her day worse. I have a darling, darling beloved friend in the UK whose father has been diagnosed with lung cancer and a brain tumour. They have been given a treatment plan but his prognosis is extremely poor. She is beside herself with grief and the unknown, and I want to be there for her physically, but of course, I can’t. So sad. So terrible for her to be sobbing down the phone from Essex to Auckland, on her mobile in the yard of the place where she works. So hard for her. Thanks for letting me get that out.

For many a year I’ve wondered to what extent grammar of this ilk is taken into account when grading ze international students’ work.
I usually correct the first page of an assignment, and leave it at that. It's not too onerous. However in the past few years I have been doing contract teaching in political theory, and very few international students take courses in such obscure topics. My current job is in a business school, and I am teaching a highly technical subject, so I may be in for a rude awakening.
Why does no one post opera, or at least opera singers, on Fridays?
The pictures are forgettable, but the extraordinary singing is not. Cecilia Bartoli has the most remarkable voice control.

Indeed. I hope it's helped to have got how you feel out and been heard. Many here will have been through something similar and know your and your friends feelings of distress.

I was tucking my kids into bed this eveing with a few bedtime stories from Youtube: Tom Lehrer (Pollution, Poisoning Pigeons and the Elements), Green Jelly's 3 Little Pigs, Primus - The Devil Went Down To Georgia, They Might Be Giants (Istanbul, Dr Worm, several of their sciency ones - I liked the one about the sun), stuff like that.
-
They Might Be Giants
Nice.
Jackie, you said not to, but we're all thinking of your friend, and you for caring so much. Take care.
-
I put on ACDC - Back in Black and after each of the first three songs on side one my three year old burst into applause - she just loved it.

The Shanks speech is proof that there are too many people in the house with not enough to do and what they do do they do very poorly - I was waiting for her to mention "Obama Bit Laden" or “Obama Bytes Bin Laden”.
There should be 80 seats in parliament 70 electorate and 10 list seats and Shanks does not deserve one.

Because all opera is crap, there I said it. Am I now banned from the Middle Class?.

Blame Radio Hauraki and the average NZ work place for that I reckon.
They were playing ACDC in Unity Books yesterday arvo. I thought, this is umm, unusual.
Thing is, I'd just come from an acupuncture session where, I swear, the binkly bonkly music they play while you lie there like a petrified hedgehog was a binkly bonkly version of this:
It was an afternoon of considerable musical dissonance.
-
Deborah, in reply to
No, this is opera.
But really, if it's music that you like, then sucks yaboo to what anyone else says about it.
