This thread has been very informative! Jordan Luck has an amazing memory for names and faces, as well as a steely resolve; 'Dance All Around the World' should have been called Plagiarisy McPlagiarism; and I was inspired to dig out one of my favourite Dance Exponents songs, 'Your Best Friend Loves Me Too'. Hooray.

In the last 20 years social change has accelerated so much that could we assume that even in 10 years time the promo efforts of today will look equally as quaint?

This seems like the ideal thread to ask a question which has been giving me some difficulty on and off for a couple of years (google, my apparently fickle friends, has been no help!).
Whatever Happened To Tracy - I have this vague (real, or possibly not) memory that the inspiration for this song was a girl that went missing. However I haven't been able to find confirmation. Does anyone know what the story is?

Sure does Rob! That's John Hanlon (Damn the Dam) singing right? Is this clip from Off The Edge? Playing at a suburban cinema near you every few months during the late 70's.
There was a fuss amongst the purists at the time because the skiers wore jeans, a real no no in a high alpine environment and used regular downhill bindings rather than proper ski touring kit. I worked with a woman who had seen this film as a child and decided there and there to make her living in the wild outdoors. It has a lovely naive freedom about it in the Good Bye Pork Pie, Blerta style of give it a go film making. A treasure.

I tip my hat to everyone, including the Exponents, who carved out a “career” in NZ Music during these times. They should have inducted the whole band.

No discredit to Jordan and his crafty way with pop music. Even us alternatives like the guy.Career in NZ music :) that's a good one. hobby would be a better term.

Fantastic award for Jordan! Whilst living in a grotty Sydney flat mid-80s - there were two Kiwi vinyl albums that got played non-stop by us homesick for Aotearoa: The Exponants & The Mockers. Back home just a few months later at 2ZM, we had Jordan in for an interview - whilst waiting at Broadcasting House reception he jumped up & gave one of the potplants a jolly good watering in front of stunned on-lookers. It was a classic Jordan Luck moment. Not sure whether the potplant survived. Andrew Fagan should be next for the Hall of Fame. And um, er Brooke Fraser ? Lovely girl and sings just as nicely as any averagely talented female singer/songer I've heard - but... I can't remember any of her songs!

Probably not. A concentrated dose of urea in a small pot would not have done it much good (unless it was plastic?)(the plant, not the pot).
I had to stop pissing off the back terrace late at night (why do our blardy wives take sooo long in the bathroom!) because I noticed the grass was starting to brown off.

ok I was inferring that there wouldn't be any cos the hall of fame thing is such a popularist concept, and as simon has noted in another forum unlikely to recognise many of the of the real heroes of NZ music (your murray cammicks & roger shepherds etc) outside of the bleeding obvious (neil finn dave dobbyn and that guy from dragon, can't remember his name etc).
Jordan Luck was a good start though, for all the other hardened cynics out there like me.
Dave Gent, Michael Harilambi, and Brian Jones (not to mention the departed "Fingers") may be waiting a long time for their induction.My choice for drummer hall of fame though
Bevan Sweeney and Caroline Easther.
Those two have drummed in practically every band anyway.

Indeed, and without whom...at various times each one of those (and the late Michael Manton) kept both the band more or less together.
If any band was a "unit' as such..
But if the NZ R&R Hall of Fame is gonna go down the path of it's much derided US counterpart, it may be time walk away now...
NZ's first few inductees should probably have been:
1. Murray Cammick
2. Eldred Stebbing (although Th'Dudes and Hello Sailor might argue)
3. Phil Warren
4. Roger Shepherd
5. Trevor Reekie
6. Mike Chunn
7. John McCready
8. Jerry Wise (posthumously)After that it should look at the people whose careers these folk created.
But those names don't sell albums or seats I guess

Glyn Tucker Jnr...fer sure despite the Hasselhoff. I'm sure there are a few others I missed. Benny Levin & Russell Clarke..invented the touring circuit for NZ bands, which was major for years. Imagine how big Jordan would be if he'd not had that.

I am still a dolphin in the sea of loving dolphins. I concur with all your comments and as this is my first dive into these mighty blogographic oceans, let me add happy and chortled. I would like to laud the John Hanlon writer (and John himself). From 1975, my sisters and I would go to the Geraldine Cinema (the only independent cinema in the South Island) (ha!). No matter what film or girlfriend was on mid-week / or weekend we would be there with popcorn & jaffa, a sense of excitement and waiting to be able to get up to the snow and try out our Canadian Snowshoes. Hang Gliding and Higher Trails !....LOts of Love y'all....Simon & The Mee Mees & the....xoxo -

Tracey was a magical woman @ G.H.S. Great Swimmer. Her parents owned a magical mystery garden forest and home called Sundrum. Chris Sheehan wrote all the weirdly bizarre 1950's doo-wop chords. I wrote the repetitive verse. In fact apart from some Trance/Hippity Hoppity Mix stuff..def the mos' rep verse that i writ (sic). Where be thee Tracey ? And that's also what I like about PA System - occasionally someone truly legendary comes along and joins in.
