"It was a munted year."
Yep, it sure was.
-
You well and truly munted that embargo

Yep. It's buggered.
-
Embargo, nek minnit...
-
Well frack me munted.

Who cares?
For some, their world is destroyed; for many others, their world is in dreary abeyance – or (I’m thinking Nelson) in terrifyingly new haddit territory.
Any of those, life – and homes &comfort & normality-good health& ease -are so easily swept away.
“Never count on your bed being there in the morning” (old Hasid saying.)
-
I don't think you meant "main sewer truck", though I guess a lot of sewage is transported by vehicle in Christchurch these days, or has been.

Richard Grevers, in reply to
Our main sewer truck is seriously munted
I believe the correct word was "trunk"
-
Russell Brown, in reply to
I believe the correct word was “trunk”
Which I knew, which is why I didn't see my own typo.
Gah. Thanks guys.
-
Now waiting for the inevitable recount...
-
In other news, I'll be on Morning Report discussing "munted" and the other WOTYs at about 8.50am.

I love the word ‘munted’ and have used a great deal through out my life. I had no idea until today that it had any special significance to this year.
Did anyone else notice ‘nek minute’ in the Dom Post weather strip (at the bottom of A1) about two weeks ago; “Sunny morning – nek minit; cloudy with a chance of rain”. That’s ridonculous.
-
It lacks a certain piquancy when it's spelt 'minute' - a diminished verisimilitude, if you will. #pretentiouscommamoiquestionmark

good call, I will edit my comment!

A mounted ridonculous …
sexy motor!
-
In keeping with the 'munted' zeitgeist, the 16 pic portfolio from Chris Skelton, Stuff's top photographer of the year, includes one dead body, one major deformity, two amputees, and one, well, munter.

Russell Brown, in reply to

But you're not loving autocorrect right now, huh?
Let me un-munt that for you.

Those Sewer Trucks, suck…

Gah. Thanks guys.Russell, I believe you accurately repeated what Parker was reported to have said – I too wondered , and searched , and could only find main sewer truck and this comment by a Paul Stockley about the ethics of correcting quotes:
Example 1:
A reporter mistook a technical term ‘trunk’ (meaning main route) as ‘truck’, and this error was published. Correct it thus when quoting[*]:
"Our main sewer [trunk] is seriously munted … I believe that is the technical term."But, then again, I wouldn’t put it past Bob, our ‘Great Communicator’, to have got it wrong in the heat of the moment…

He actually seems to have been reported to have said "trunk", "trunks" and "truck".
Clearly, Bob's diction has slipped since his TV days.

Bob's as good as the scripts he's fed. It's when his minders attempt to get down with the kids that things go awry.

Three words in the top 10: ‘occupy’ ‘99%’ and ‘Arab Spring’ , relate to the changing world order. That’s heartening.

Geoff Lealand, in reply to
Morning Report report: you did very well, young lad.

3 mins, listening options

Munted is a great word, but it sure sounds odd when it's repeated by a squeaky toddler voice from the back seat of the car, after you've just observed the results of an accident.
