I recall reading an article in the Guardian Weekly some time back, about the failure to to capture Karadzic (especially by NATO) and the networks that had concealed him and the suggestions made about deals being struck to allow him to escape. Hadn't ever seen those shots of UN peacekeepers tied to posts as 'human shields, shown on ONE News last night. Really shocking!
If you can't have a happy birthday Russell, have a tremendously pleasant one.

Cheese and crackers, what is it about men of a certain age and enhancing their televisual experience? (Dave went out on Sunday to get a bottle of milk and the papers, and came back with an early birthday present - a new TV. With a built in digital tuner, so I'll finally get to see Media 7 larger than life!
My pressie is going to look hella lame, but I'm just thankful he didn't come back with a convertable.

Sometimes, like Keith Moon, they have to take loads of drink and drugs just to come down to our puny human level. And surely the greatest rock athlete of all time must be former Motorhead drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor.
I heart this drummer post. Keith and Philthy would be my 2 favourite rawk drummers (if I treat punk ((Paul Cook)) as a separate category), both for their drumming styles and associated personalities. Philthy still looks in pretty good shape on the Ace of the Spades 'Classic Albums' DVD as well.
John Bonham was a heavy hitter but he did drum solos so I couldn't possibly include him.
Happy birthday by the way. I know so many July birthdayers.

To be a drummer you must be either a) superfit, b) hyperactive, or c) a gorilla

What would call lesbians from Lesbos?
Greek.Many Happy Returns Russell!
May all of your lesbians be authentic*, all of your drummer fit and your cyclists highly defined.*I just realised a marketing opportunity there
-
(if I treat punk ((Paul Cook)) as a separate category)
sadly you can't. Paul Cook in Mojo a month or two back when questioned about his new band with some guy from Def Leopard (!!?!) said "I'm just a rock drummer" or words to that effect.
What with that tie up and scary impending punk reunions later this year you have to ask how it came to this.
Oh, and a very happy day RB. Trying to work out the exact age?

2 favourite rawk drummers
and quietly many drummers rate Ringo Starr even if only for the Ticket To Ride, as I do. But my favourite drummer is closer to home, Mike Dooley was a powerhouse unlike any other I've seen.

Happy Birthday us!
I hope yours is better than mine. My Zune died last night (6 months old!) and I've already had the limp rendition of Happy Birthday sung to be at my obligatory office morning tea.
.....Happy Birthday dear Russell and David, happy birthday for two.xxx PS, May Zune rest in peace. And Shooshy the cat (19) getting her deportation papers this morn.
-
Trying to work out the exact age?
A year younger than John Key; whatever that is.
Have a good day RB. Enjoy watching men on drugs with your HD.
BTW, isn’t Mick Fleetwood quite highly rated, despite never being that challenged? -

'Rain'! I vote for 'Rain'!
(HB, RB.)

Mike Dooley was a powerhouse unlike any other I've seen.
Amen to that.
If drummers are athletes then Victor "Moulty" Moulton deserves some kind of special olympics award:

'Rain'! I vote for 'Rain'!
Indeed and Helter Skelter......and Come Together for that matter..and...

Happy birthday RB
And a query (maybe your dear partner may know if you don't)
Why is it so hard to find a printed schedule of programms for the Freeview channels
I know I can scan through them with the electronic gizmo but why is nothing in printAnd may the day after your birthday be almost as good as the day

3410,
Moulty
Here's the Barbarians in action (Moulty featured from 1:30):

Here's some great TDF pics, big enough for desktops and that. I *bet* the racing looks cool on an HD setup.
My fav drummer is Grant Hart from Husker Du. You can't beat a singing drummer. Just look at the Eagles.
Happy B'day Russell.

Entire nation states have gone to war on the question of which of 720p or 1080i is better (especially for sport).
See you're getting more actual pixels in yer eyeballs per second in 720p than 1080i. For fast moving images the progressive scan can be better .. if you don't believe me I am authorised to kill you. Or something.
Maybe you don't want 1080i after all?
The Tour? Meh. Drugged-to-the-eyeballs. It's no longer about the better athlete, but who has the best pharmacist.

Seem to recall someone calculated, back in the mid-70s, that Keith Moon put out in one performance, the equivalent energy output of the Battersea Power Station over the same time period.
No, I don't know how you'd calculate that either.BTW, isn’t Mick Fleetwood quite highly rated, despite never being that challenged?
Was listening to Warren Zevon's 'Excitable Boy' album last night... Fleetwood drums on 'Werewolves of London' and he is as sharp as Charlie Watts on that track. Really lifts it.
And Ringo...I'd vote for all those already mentioned, and add 'You Never Give Me Your Money'
-
Happy Birthday also.
I saw Gilson Lavis recently as part of Jools Holland's band; unbelievably cool drummer who looks effortless (shit-hot band and gig too).
-
Ticket To Ride
That got me thinking...listen to this background hysteria (another Greek thing). It is unbelievable.
-
Happy Birthday RB!
Now I must attend to a fractious newborn, who believes sleep is only for whimps. But when he finally nods off, I shall raise a glass of Merlot in the direction of Pt Chev.
-
Dave Grohl was awesome drumming for queens of the stone age / songs for the deaf
giddy up!
-
Happy Birthday RB!
-
Moon the Loon gets my vote, not as the best drummer, but the biggest personality.
Ringo was one of those drummers who held the sound together - his style is so recognisable. Glen Matlock puts the Pistols sound down the Paul Cook, and I remember seeing both Strummer and Jones saying the Clash were held together by Topper Headon.
I rate Clem Burke as a great drummer, but he couldn't keep up with the Ramones!
I'd give my Ringo vote to Tomorrow Never Knows or to Rain.
-
And I believe it was Marcus Greil who said Levon Helm's drumming could bring you to tears (in a good way)
