  • JacksonP, in reply to Russell Brown,

Just listening to Flume and thinking they’ll be this year’s SBTRKT.

Heard this today, and thought it would sound good loud, after dark, surrounded by happy hipsters. Or something.

  • Ethan Tucker,

For a bit of fun I looked up a recent ZZ Top video, having read an interview with them in Mojo a few weeks back. I steered well clear of them in the 80s but in a way it's kind of refreshing that they're still making exactly the same videos decades later. This track, I Gotsta Get Paid, may not be lyrically complex but it features some pleasingly crunchy guitar-work. Not bad for a bunch of old geezers.

Elvis Costello and band, The Civic.

Great show. Personally, I was hoping for a few from King of America, but there was enough to keep even the most ardent critics happy. And the EC fans were literally out of their seats going clappity clappity. Well, I was. ;-)

  • Danielle,

The "deep catalogue" song I was most thrilled to hear:

Since my husband got a setlist from the soundboard I'm slightly disappointed that there were three songs from Get Happy!! on the cards which didn't make it in the end.

I was hoping for more from King of America

I've noticed that Get Happy!! and King of America, even though they're such strong albums, aren't really used that much in live shows. It's a bit odd. Anyway. My eighth Elvis Costello show, and my first since 2004, so I was very very very happy. NERDGASM! :)

(Also, Don McGlashan is so great every time I see him. I was so pleased we got there early enough to see his whole, tiny set.)

  • andin,

    clappity clappity

Yes the year is hardly one month old and sanity is thin on the ground. Yacht rock eh! the saccaharine soundtrack to a period of excess that saw a generation look up its own arse and get mesmerised. And ZZTop were part of that, girls and cars hmmm... And what followed, EC, yeah well...There's littleish smattering of madness here, here and here. Still someone managed to muster a bit of anger.

  • Geoff Lealand, in reply to Danielle,

The lot in the back seats took some time to warmup and the couple next to me inexplicably left the show half-way through. Don McG was top-notch (love that song "Make Your Own Mind Up") and although EC didn't do anything from my favourite album Should I Be Cruel, it was a bloody good concert--a generous two hours.

  • Kyle Matthews,

Just noticed that alt-j are playing Laneways - got their album an awesome wave off itunes at Xmas time and it's kept on growing on me over the past month - really good.

    Officially jealous now :(
