I can't remember! Money was different then.

He was always a handsome man.

Cool stuff, stuff of urban mythology … I can’t recall experiencing anything closely similar myself, although the Datsun’s did doss a night at an old flat in Fitzroy early 2000s (before they hit the big time) thru a Tokoroa connection who was renting a room for a few weeks
And you are spot on re: photos in the pre digital/mobile phone era … I used to do a lot of SLR snapping, but really lost the urge so to say when every person had a camera and every moment was a kodak moment … 10 odd years on I’ve some nostalgia for the photos I did take, and desire to share them should I manage to resurrect the ol blog! P-Money in Dj battles with real records, Che Fu at Revolver in Melbourne, Madlib at the Prince of Wales and so on

Oh my god - just seen this. Russellwaters was one of the great days when everything about provincial DIY culture came together gloriously, a Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland "Let's do the show right here!" movie inside a cloud of weed surfing a sea of DB. I remember a hat being passed around for tour van fuel: $50 and a watch, but the band gave the watch back to the owner. Had to borrow 'the big Masport' from my dad the weekend before to tackle months of untamed lawn. He trusted me and the lawn so little that he insisted on a deposit for the mower. Classy move, Dad. I've never seen any photos from the day, so this is rather special. A wonderful, magical thing to have happen in your back garden.

Yes! It was just a splendid day. And I'd forgotten the hat and watch, so thanks for that memory. The watch thing is so sweet – I haven't got any money, but please, take my watch!

Hahahaha. Gold.

speaking of 'vintage kiwi rock acts' - anyone who wants to own the rare self-destroying vinyl in vinyl Great Unwashed double single from 1984 - Look No Further!
https://www.trademe.co.nz/music-instruments/vinyl/45-rpm/pop/listing-2515958713.htm?rsqid=8ff27e6570a540faba360cc95a5b9c4b-002I have no idea if these are still actually playable - as the records have traces of the vinyl packaging 'impressed' on the surface - someone who knows how to clean (Clean) records properly might well make a profit out of this - I started the sale at $1 (to take advantage of the Trade me no success fee offer) but it has only climbed to $7.60!!
There was me hoping for the kind of frenzy that saw a humble Export Lamb single go for over $500 last year - it's a funny old world... -
