<Christchurch guilt>
I have solemnly promised to get down to Christchurch -- the February quake pre-empted what was to have been the first Christchurch Great Blend last year -- but we kind of have to wait until it works for the sponsor.

Emma Hart, in reply to
Lilith__: we're so desperate for entertainment I'm working on organising Chch drinks for, and I can hardly believe I'm saying this, absolutely no reason at all. The keen should let me know and I'll start trying to work out the logistics.

Yeah, I know. Yet another reason earthquakes suck!
Emma: I'm totally keen on get-togethers, gratuitous or otherwise. :-)
ETA: Emma: don't tell me you're tied up.

Alright, I won't.
Actually... this is not a good month for me to be trying to do this, what with packing up my whole house and moving into temporary accommodation while we have repairs done. But. We really need it.

So, you are tied up, and not in a fun way. Good luck with the packing. Do you have to be out of your house long?

If another one happens in v.early September (I’ve a reading at the Press R&W fest.
on the ?2nd (I think)) – I’d be a Starter. Would Bring Heartland Chips… -
Emma Hart, in reply to
Heh, I have to be in Auckland on the 6th, Serving at Russell's Pleasure, but I'm sure we could swing something.
Lilith: two to three weeks, they reckon. Co-ordinating everything between our insurance company, Fletcher's, the contractors actually doing the work, our accommodation and our cattery... is driving me pretty bugshit.

I think we have to have you along somehow, Islander!

Lilith __, in reply to
Emma, you have my sympathies.

Will be returning from Otago later in the month....?

Wait, which month? This one, or September? :-)
-
Islander, in reply to
September (well-kept secret: the first 4 weeks of 'baiting in Big O are generally ratshit....)
I'll be over in Otago at the end of this month, but since I detour through SH 72, dont normally return via CHCH (saves about 3 hours travel time.) -
If you can't go the Great Blend, you CAN go to this:
http://www.physics.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/home/events/template/event_item.jsp?cid=495704
A public lecture on the LHC and the recent discovery there from Mark Kruse, a member of the ATLAS collaboration...
(Sorry for posting to two threads :-)

Oh fuck, they clash (my first for the semester :-). How long is the lecture likely to be?
-
richard, in reply to
Ben -- around an hour.
-
Work commitments mean I couldn't get up to Auckland in the first place. There's been previous talk of more informal PAS gatherings, maybe those are still a goer?

Opportunist!
But, damn, what a clash.
Ben, if you did go to the lecture you'd still get down the the Civic in time for the Cut Collective show.

Okay, Chch PASers, we have a date for Stress Relief Drinkies: the 21st of July. Not only is this not a weekend I'm moving, and not a weekend my partner is having a birthday, but the Lovely Lucy is going to be in town! Venue and time TBA, what with the now permanent difficulty of getting around post-quake Chch.

Funnily enough, InternetNZ's AGM is being promoted with the same logic.

Awesome. If we can't have a Great Blend, perhaps we can have a Quite Good one. :-)
I note the tsunami siren's going to be tested at 11am the next day. Something to bear in mind.

I'll be doing that. I will be able to report exactly how fast a motivated man can ride his bike from Owen Glenn to the Civic, with MyTracks to prove it. My guess at this point, sub 5 minutes. Gravity is on my side, and a massive spinless particle like me has a lot of energy for a short time. Of course at this point it's only theory, but I'm quietly confident. I'm afraid I can't control the font on MyTracks though, so only serious cyclists will be allowed to look at it.

Just don't collide with any other high-speed particles ;-)

If anyone wants to have some dinner beforehand, just let me know. My email icon is up there.

And finally: we will again be serving delicious Hallertau brews from the keg, but we're not in a position to provide food
IANAL (Well IAS-OAL... IUTBAL) but... ?
