I don't think you'll be able to hear me from down there. Or at least, not before they throw Megan and Jo in with me.
I can't think of another two women I'd be so happy to share a cell with!
-
so umm... how goes it for Chch? are you looking for a venue?
We're in negotiations for a venue. There will be a Chch launch even if we end up having to have it in David's yard with the bees.

must...resist....smut....
On the Parliament security, I used to visit a friend, quite often, who worked on, shall we say, an upper floor of the Beehive. The security guards used to just wave me up there all the time. I guess I don't look like someone who might be carrying anything dangerous. Or who might accidentally go wandering into offices, because she's fecking nosey...
-
do they still take away all cameras and phones?
Not for attending a function, unless something has changed: you may be thinking of the conducted tours.

Are you really as credulous as some of the more trusting souls who were our wedding guests?
-
They're actually very nice people as well as very good at their job.
Indeed -- and, I'm reliably informed, they're basically invisible and downright pleasant compared to their equivalents in Westminster, Capitol Hill or even Canberra. A friend who spent five years in Washington is convinced she's going to start glowing in the dark, thanks to all the metal detectors she went through on a daily basis. :)

Heh, I have a 'run-in with parliamentary security' story that I can't tell. It was a long time ago, and everyone's moved on since. Even, I guess, the person involved who is now an MP.
-
let me know if venue negotiations stall... I have friends in small but perfectly formed places ;)
-
JoJo,
must...resist....smut....
Whatever for?

Hey Russ Le Roq
That's a different guy. More throwing of phones, less writing of blogs.
This one's Russ Le Rite. Easy mistake.

If it involves smearing of DNA on the Speaker's chair-blankie, everyone has heard that story. Only the names change, and the Speaker's chair really needs to be registered as a brothel. :)
-
You know, I just knew someone was going to mention the Speakers Chair.

You know, I just knew someone was going to mention the Speakers Chair.
It would be rude not to take the shot after someone went to the effort of setting it up, even if it's far too easy.
-
Nonetheless, no, there was no chair. It isn't even a rude story, so there.
Speaker in those days was Jonathan Hunt, a man who at least had some gravitas, even if you didn't agree with him.
-
Emma, you're a tease.
Speaker's Chair? All the chamber doors are locked well before the start of any function, for precisely that reason. That's been the practice for 15 years or more.

Hey Russ Le Roq,
Mate.
thanks for linking to our download. It is our first go at full blown internet cross platform spam wars. Tweeting, hypeming, facebooking, createsending, blog venting etc. So thanks for joining in.
De nada. I'm actually quite fascinated by Bandcamp too. It seems to work really well.
Can't see you on Hype Machine yet, but I'll break you off a piece of my awesome Twitter goodness when it gets there. I am perpetually drunk on on the heady brew of Hypem Twitter influence points.
-
I was much happier when the Ak event was scheduled for after the big presentation I have to deliver on Thursday morning.
I don't think you'll be able to hear me from down there.
A live feed could diversify your income streams..
-
Hmmm, now that I think about it, I've got quite a few anecdotes. None involving the Speaker's chair or actual members of Parliament though...
-
Anecdata, my favourite.

We'd appreciate it for sure. Its all kind of new to us actually. We are perhaps a little behind in the internet land.
I think Einstein Music Journal has our track up and thats linked to hypem or something...but looking the stats on the very useable Bandcamp most people who downloaded today came via Public Adress..... there you have it.
Is that Stroke concert tonight, just saw Roger Shepard on the telly.
Give Roger Flying Nun petition anyone?

Honestly! My mind went to a very very Bad place. In a good way, of course. Naturally, the mention of bewbs on book covers didn't help.
...also, must resist comments on Lockwood and BEWBS. Or ignorance thereof.

Yeah, I've heard others get a rude shock from getting a gig in the Grand Hall. For future reference, there's a wharenui down the road that does the same job in similar digs. Although my fav meeting hall is Tapu Te Ranga Marae. That's some fine Maori building design.

The corkage charge in Parliament is crazy. All comes down to Bellamys' monopoly in the function rooms. You pay their charge or you buy their wine which is equally over-priced.
It almost killed the Press Gallery Xmas party until we got around it. Gallery and none of the political parties hold functiions in the Bellamys controlled rooms anymore.
We use the alleyway and Doidge room (fits 20 people comfortably) and the parties use their caucus room for their parties. This means you can bring in outside caterers and booze. Not quite as grand as the Grand Hall though, have a good night -
thanks Ian
To be totally accurate, the "Bellamys" name applies to Parliamentary catering generally.
The over-priced services are provided by a contactor, currently Eurest IIRC (although it may have changed).
One of these days I must get around to investigating when the contract expires and when new tenders are called for.
-
Actually, the Doidge room fits about three people comfortably.
Emma and friends perhaps? -
You mean these friends ?
