  • Danielle,

I can't say I've ever given this much thought, because LA LA LA I AM NEVER DYING I CAN'T HEAR YOU MORTALITY DOESN'T EXIST. Ahem. But obviously:

Then something appropriately epic, which also turns into a dance party. Um...

The lullabye I sing to my children:

    Sadness and fragility:

The reason I met my husband:

The most important life lesson I can impart:

And Cole Porter says it best:

Ah! I picked 'Do You Realize?' when I was interviewed on a Christian radio show recently. Of course that should be there.

Great Danielle. All your musics belongs to me. Well, you know what I mean.

Was wondering which Bowie I'd pick. This is a bit obvious maybe.

But for pretty much any occasion you care to mention, I'd play this.

It totally isn't a funeral without a funky song about coke-fuelled paranoia, amirite?

  • Richard Aston,

Man its going to be one long funeral so far...
They are going to be dancing in the aisles. They will be crying and laughing, shaking their bodies, praying and meditating... hey I think I can sniff that faint wiff of weed in the air...
And someone selling tee shirts by the exit.
Sounding like a really good gig , Ok who's first?

  • Paul Campbell,

Umm ... this is supposed to be a thread about music for turning 50 to, not really a funeral - more like an excuse for an epic party

Like I need an excuse! But yeah, it wasn't meant to be solely about funeral playlists. I'mma have a PARTY on Saturday.

  • Paul Campbell,

We had a great turning 50 party, didn't really tell anyone, called it a 'solstice party' and over did the prep a little more than usual and had a great time - my usual party music list solution is to simply place a chosen pile of CD's by the CD player and switch them in/out 5 at a time every couple of hours.

My partner is 6 months older, by the time I become any particular age 'we' have already worked through the angst ....

Friends rented a hall and a band who played 60s oldies - completely missing the audience by a decade ..... grumbling ensued

Word! The first time I went to england to see my brothers after my Dad passed, I would spend days walking around listenin to either Che's 2 b s'pacific, or Roots Manuva's brand new second hand. Both albums were the perfect soundtrack for me during those months away from home, my Ma and sis

  • Alec Morgan,

50th, it’s your party RB, sprinkling of history maybe but think–what do you really like and what do you mostly play these days, or, return to in party mode? don’t pander to the punters, just blast it.

Funerals tend to be a bit ‘Desert Island Disc’. “Another one bites the dust” attempts at humour and lachrymose sentiment. How about a dignified approach such as Eno’s “Music for Airports”.

Both at once. This played at my 21st. I'd like it to play at my funeral. (Though that will largely be down to my Musical Director and my overall Artistic Director. He threatened Whitesnake, hence the appointment of a Musical Director.)

    I always liked this version...

Me & the hubcap are currently planning our 20th wedding anniversary gig... we'll be having it at our friends' bar, with 3-4 local bands & a DJ (all friends of ours) providing hours & hours of musical goodness ranging from jazz to pop, from folk to dubstep. It's a damn fine excuse for a party - as is yours! Cheers/congrats etc :)
