  • Sofie Bribiesca,

I wouldn't mind having the recipe for the tamarillo chutney-

Ok, Chutney is yum, so here goes. Please bear in mind my Tbsp= 1 desert or 2 spoonfuls but depends on you and seeds can de powder form. Amounts make this personal. Use as much herbs/spices as your taste buds dictate.
    1kg tree tomatoes
    2 Onion
    2 Apples
    1 tbsp oil.
    hunk of ginger
    1tbsp mustard seeds
2 tbsps cumin, coriander (powder or seeds)
I tbsp fenugreek (leaves or powder)
    pinch of chilli
    1 cup of sugar
    1 cup cider vinegar
Scoop tree tomatoes into bowl, add onion and apples diced small. set aside.
Heat oil, add mustard seeds and as they start popping turn down.Ad cumin coriander ,fenugreek, chilli. Mix then add sugar and vinegar. Finally add tree tomato onion/apple mixture. stir, bring to the boil , turn heat down and simmer for 1 hour until thick. spoon into sterilised jars. Life span 6months at least

  • Geoff Lealand,

Many thanks for the recipe, Sofie. Maybe I should make an extra spicey pot for Russell.

Time for bed, after catching Prince and Purple Rain on MGM. My daughter (due to turn 16 on Wednesday) just loved his clothes--especially the cravats.

  • Tom Semmens,

Last Sunday I got a call telling me my aging mother had been rushed to Hawke's Bay hospital with renal failure and Pancreatitis. After all was stabilised the cause of it was tracked to....Gall stones. A whole marble bag full, apparently. We got her home on Thursday night, to prepare for an operation to remove them and her gall bladder in a couple of weeks. This whole episode made and continues to make my Mum very, very ill.

These stones are not beasts to be taken likely. I wish you a speedy and full recovery Mr. Brown.

We watched All gone Pete Tong which I thought was an interesting take on going from Djing to completely deaf. Really liked it.

A much better film than you'd think from the advertising and publicity.

Can't quite decide whether it wants to be slapstick or serious at first, but eventually decides to get serious in the 2nd and 3rd acts, and is much the better for it.

I thought it portrayed the Ibiza lifestyle quite well.:)

  • Joe Wylie,

    Geoff Lealand:

Someone not so involved in the film business (and a possible recipient of NZFC funding) but with a good grasp of the issues-- Roger Horrocks, for example.

    That's quite an inspired suggestion.

    Sofie Bribiesca:

Thanx Joe. MORE! WE WANT MORE!:)

No problem. More skateboards than you can poke a stick at. (Chris Knox had a very nice one last year).

Meanwhile, trust that the post-stone recovery is progressing apace.

  • Carol Stewart,

This is my Mum's pre-metric tamarillo chutney recipe that is pretty hard to beat:
    4 lbs tamarillos
    1 lb onions
    1 tbsp salt
1-2 tsp cayenne pepper ('careful!' says my Mum)
    1/2 lb raisins
    1 lb green apples
    2 lbs brown sugar
    1 pint vinegar
2-4 tsp mixed pickling spices (chillis, pepper, cloves, allspice, nutmeg) in muslin bag.

Soak tamarillos in boiling water then peel skins off. Dice tamarillos, apples and onions. Gently boil all ingredients until soft (1 1/2 - 2 hours) then put in hot, clean jars.

    All the best, Russell.

Also, just in case you missed it, Danyl said hi:

I’ve just learned via the Public Address comments that Russell Brown is at home recovering from surgery after having a kidney stone removed. The DimPost writers, subs, administrative staff and editorial team all wish him a speedy recovery.
