  • Matthew Reid,

Ubuntu. A great word that will become better known now Obama has spoken it. Not the operating system, nor the health clinic in Khayelitsha, a huge township of Cape Town.

  • JessicaRose,

Clictivism? Passive activism by liking things on facebook. Admittedly I haven't heard this overused yet.

    Clictivism?

I have to admit, I initially misread that.

  • Lilith __,

I'm really keen on Twitter Aunties (#twitteraunties) because it's a local movement using social media to bring people and resources together, as if by magic. Not to overlook the huge amount of work it's been for Jackie and the other Aunties, but this is a contemporary phenomenon. Traditional methods would simply not have worked like this.

  • Ross Mason,

    Penis Beaker.

The beaker part is pure science. So in the interests of science and some bedside experimenting.......

For those who question shall we say - the 6 inch or 12 inch Sub - one could use such a device to carry out Archimedes experiment and thus discover the volume of said Sub.

I know, it's sinking it to the depths...

  • DexterX,

For word of the year try "Report".

There have been so many disasters, failures, in most spheres or "governance" – all that happens is there is another report in response and no solution or change in policy.

Novapay, The Dunny Leak, The ongoing privacy failures, The Bain Report, The further report on the Bain report, The Len Saga, the Police were waiting for one etc, etc

Also I am sad that First Citizen, Mr Wow himself, John (in the key of awesome) Key wasn't time magazine's person of the year. I needed to share it somewhere.

I'd like "meeting in the Ngati Whatua room" to become our local "discussing the Ugandan situation."

  • ChrisW,

    Botulism.

So many of the above seem to be of the moment rather than the year, alternatively old if not perennial, but botulism seems one to savour, so to speak, for 2013.
