Question Time will be fun today
Sadly, it will probably just follow the usual pattern:
Long-winded questions from Goff, jokey blokey non-answers from Key, pointless points of order from Labour benches, arguing with Lockwood Smith while the real target escapes.
I hope I'm wrong.

Nicked this from the Kiwiblog thread
http://www.nbr.co.nz/horses-mouth/why-has-minister-internal-affairs-richard-worth-resigned
-
BTW, the defamation case in which Worth is down to give evidence was reported in 2007.
Glucina's mother claims to have been defamed because Saunders allegedly linked a weird poison-pen letter she received to her.
These people are like infants.
Which means it must be Whaleoil time.
There's some bizarre generational Eastern suburbs feud being worked out here.
But it did make The Guardian!

Nicked this from the Kiwiblog thread
Which goes like this:
The key OIA question relating to this was:
"16. Information which confirms that Watercare Services Ltd has ever employed (including by contract) anyone directly related (spouse, sibling, son or daughter, brother or sister in law) to yourself, Minister of Internal Affairs. If so, when, for what purpose and was the appointment contestable?"
WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION?
IS IT TRUE THAT RICHARD WORTH'S DAUGHTER HELD AN UNCONTESTED CONTRACT AT WATERCARE SERVICES LTD?
THE NEXT QUESTION IS:
IF TRUE, WHAT ROLE DID WATERCARE CEO MARK FORD PLAY IN THE SECURING OF THIS CONTRACT?
That would be the Mark Ford who's just been named to head the Auckland Transition Agency. If there's anything in this, it's bloody spectacular.
Caveat: the release in question is the work of Penny Bright. Contents may not be sane.
-
Yeah, sentences all in CAPITALS do not a good look make
-
But CAPITALS is an accurate reflection of the oratory of the author in question.
-
Penny Bright's release says:
This OIA request was sent to Minster of Internal Affairs Richard Worth on Saturday 31 May 2009.
But Stuff reports 'Mr Key said an outside party had informed his office of the allegation of a ''relatively recent'' incident last week.'
In my world, cause precedes effect.
-
So. Farewell Then
Mark FoAhem. Perhaps I'll hold up for a moment.
-
The 31st of May was a Sunday.
-
Wellingon Police dipping their toes in Aukland Water?
I think you're very cold there. -
Wellingon Police dipping their toes in Aukland Water?
I think you're very cold there.Good point.
-
I'm not going back to Kiwiblog to look for any more, once a day is enough
-
The rumours I'm hearing from a reliable source are (a) nothing to do with Watercare or any such matters, (b) very serious and (c) very very ugly. Even if they prove untrue Worth should have told the PM about them.
-
Amongst all the batshittery in that OIA, why would Wellington Police be investigating conflicts of interest for appointments of OTHER people in Auckland's water industry?
I fail to see how police would get involved in that at all
-
An adage from British politics:
Labour crimes are always financial;
Tory crimes are always sexual;
Liberal crimes are mixture of the two.Not that I know anything of this particular case, but Mr Espiner's question to Mr Key was interesting.
-
What is it about Penny Bright and water privatisation? She is also mentioned in a prescient pre-Budget piece by Brian Rudman last week about politicians and broken promises for which the Herald editor got a Prime Ministerial telling off according to Pete Hodgson on
Red Alert -
Liberal crimes are mixture of the two.
I think only one Liberal has been accused (and acquitted) of serious crime in living memory - that was attempted murder of his ex-boyfriend. Not to mention shooting the dog.
I guess you chalk that up as sexual.
-
Well I guess we can't ask the dog.
-
Not to mention shooting the dog.
I guess you chalk that up as sexual. If that's what you crazy Wellingtonistas are calling it these days...
-
The rumours I'm hearing from a reliable source are (a) nothing to do with Watercare or any such matters, (b) very serious and (c) very very ugly. Even if they prove untrue Worth should have told the PM about them.
And defamatory to repeat if untrue.
If there's even the slightest truth to them, I'd expect Worth to resign from Parliament.
-
Question Time now, my summary - Key knew last Tuesday afternoon, but natural justice required gathering facts. Can't reveal details about criminal complaint. Previous bad form by Worth, but not enough to warrant firing him until now.
-
The deathly silence in the House for these questions spoke volumes.
-
Wasn't one of Worth's main functions to poll low enough in Epsom to keep Rodney, and consequently NACT, in government?
Will the Epsom National party select a keen new National candidate now? Or will they adopt Melissa Lee?
-
When will Richard Worth be reffered to as the ex-Navy Reservist and that old Pogues Album title/Churchillian memoirs be used to define him.
-
The deathly silence in the House for these questions spoke volumes.
Yes, and I was wrong up-thread. I've never heard Goff be so succinct.
The general tone of restraint suggests that the MPs have heard enough on the grapevine to know that piling on in the usual manner would not look good.
Under normal circumstances, "I'm not at liberty to say" is not an answer you'd expect the opposition to let the PM get away with. (Who has denied him this liberty?).
