Yes, the Truth has never struggled to survive. From what I've seen, the sporting commentary in it is really quite good, too. Most of the rest of the writing is ridiculous, and it's obviously mostly purchased for the huge section of advertisements for prostitution, but they do actually seem to have fun making that paper. That's entirely absent from the Herald.

:)Go to, but I'm with Russell here. Frankly, this was about as much as Shayne Currie was going to sign off on without very strongly worded legal advice. And if this dodgy figure is out of circulation at The Herald, I'd say it's a bigger win than Russell might.
The big story is how Joyce is not being questioned over his intentional misuse of figures to ditch TVNZ 7.
Perhaps you're making a presumption not in evidence there. I don't actually find it beyond the realm of possibility that a bad number got into circulation and nobody bothered to double double check it. Becuase civil servants never get their sums wrong, right?
For the record, I don't find incompetence any more endearing than malice.

Fair enough, he was handed the wrong figures so now he can 'fess up and reinstate TVNZ 7 ;-)
