  • Sam F,

Ah, got it a while ago, but forgot to post as such - thanks though :)

  • Alastair Thompson,

    @Tammy,

    Thanks for the link.

Those plans look quite attractive to me. I will need to do a bit of analysis of my bill in detail to know whether I can save much but I would think it should be a few hundred a month.

At present we pay $80 odd per handset for shared calling and offpeak minutes and texts for each phone. On peak calls to non shared phones then add a fair bit to the top of the bill.

2500 minutes pre-paid would I expect make a pretty big difference to our overall monthly bill. Plus the fact that short calls and calls which are not answered (but answered by answerphones and quickly terminated) are charged per second not per minute.

The kicker for us iwill be the termination fees and signup costs for new handsets. Our N95s are not going to work unfortunately.

    Very interesting indeed

A few hundred a month?! The kids are still too little for cellphones, but I think I'm going to just file for bankruptcy now to save time.

    Crap.

Isn't the per second charging after the first minute? So you won't escape a minute charge for those answerphone calls which last less than a minute...

Hmmm... the devil is always in the detail. Our bill is full of 2-5 second calls. Answerphones are mobile telephone companys' best friends. :)

  • Rebecca Smith,

    @ Alastair

If you need a hand working out a comparison on your bill - just give the business team at 126 a call. Otherwise I can recommend you get in touch with an Orb Guy - one of our business dealers - they have been specialising in bill analysis and comparisons over the past 6 months. If you drop a couple of months worth of bills into them, they can do all the hard work for you :-)

  • Rebecca Smith,

By the way, Friday was massive for us. I don't have the official numbers, but at one stage we were doing 1 order per minute online!

Thought you might also like to know what was going on behind the scenes. There were about 8 of us in the office (the rest were out in stores/call centres). Every single marketer had on their desktop: Yammer (what a heaven sent tool that is), Twirl/Twitter, Outlook of course, plus they ALL had publicaddress on their screens, Facebook (watching unofficial and offical sites). It was a social media hotspot! Your comments and others came in, got solved on Yammer (or yelled around the office), and changes were made to websites within an hour. Admittedly we're all quite new to this - and it's a big learning curve - but it was a very different scene to that which might have been even 6 months ago. We're very thankful for all your comments, advice and your patience with us.

Myself and others will answer any last questions you may have today and tomorrow - and then we'll probably wind down tomorrow night as all the information you need is now available.

Or you could leave minute long messages to get your money's worth... just make up a list of minute long messages, pick one to use when you phone, and recite your minute long message...

  • wendy,

    Hi
I have a couple of questions. I'm hoping that this is an ok spot to ask...as I am completely untechnological. I have been reading the posts as well as looking at geekzone and now I am confused.
My question is..my uncle is currently in the states so the opportunity is available for him to purchase me an Apple iphone 3GS (or 3G). Telecom have said that it will work on their XT network providing it is unlocked. But I have read on one of your posts that a NZ sim will not work in the phone and several features will be unavailable. Can someone please tell me if it will work?
Will this phone be programmed to a US network already so
will it cost much to make any adjustments?(that people keep talking about). The 3G is $199 and 3GS $299 but if a fortune has to be spent to make changes it won't be worth the trouble.
    Can somebody please help?
    Thank you

  • James Green,

There is some information on wikipedia about it. The iPhone works pretty well on the XT network, but anticipate charging it daily (even if you barely use it). There are also some cheapish 3G phones on trademe, and likely to be more with the arrival of the 3GS
