Emma!, from Christchurch and no Paul Cleave shout out? My wife, appalled that I have only read 4 woman authors out of the 80 or so books this year, put me onto Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series - Case Histories is the first one and then there's another three to knock off after that. Got to love finding a series you can binge read.
Is it just me or is The Luminaries just a good who dunnit? Also recommend Paul Thomas, Pierre Lemaitre, Parker Bilal (Somalian detective in Egypt), Malla Nunn (South African crime).
Regarding women's prominence in crime fiction - this month I've read 11 women authors - a good proportion crime fiction - I must say, they're not afraid of snuffing the kiddies to kick things off...

I wonder how many headline bands SJF blew away as the support act, I saw them wipe The La's (you may remember "There She Goes", or maybe you won't) off the stage in San Francisco once.

How did you mange to make the leap from exporter to "rich businessmen"? My 5 person software development company exports 100% of it's services overseas...

I'd like to give a shout out for Colin at Revival Records in Victoria Street. Passed many an hour there after uni in the '80s before getting a bus back to the cultural wasteland of the North Shore. A lovely bloke who kept a small selection of rarities under the counter for the regulars...

Russell, If Jim is interested I have a few high quality web cams, that have a good microphone and high quality 720p optics. They were originally designed for video conferencing, but produce a great image.
