Oooh yeah. Food shopping is the my favourite thing in the world.
Like everyone in Wellington I spend too much money at Moore Wilsons. But a lot of stuff there is quite comparable in price to New World and the selection is just so much better that I can stomach some of the more ridiculous prices (like their cheese...why so pricey Mr Cheese? WHY?!).
My new snob joint is On Trays. They sell the really expensive nonsense. Several varieties of Jamon Iberico (from about $180 to $500 a kilo), cave aged swiss cheese, a large variety of salt (because we can all taste the difference between sicilian sea salt and kosher salt eh?) ludicrously expensive dried pasta. I think they import a lot of stuff direct. Specifially South African things and Kosher things. Kosher stuff and the best pig products in the world.

I've enjoyed using Rdio and I'm really keen to try out Spotify. I like the idea of streaming + buying records. I tend to hear about new music through Facebo0k or Twitter. I have gone from reading several music blogs on an almost daily basis to not reading any. The reason why is surely that I get the same info filtered through twitter, with the best articles being recommended by people who just read a lot more than me.
I certainly prefer band camp to iTunes, but I'll happily use either.
Movies I need help with. I think the iTunes pricing is way out of line. Once you add in the cost of your data it seems like a much better idea to just go to the video store. I bought the Aziz Ansari standup show. I loved that pricing and convenience ($5, dl at the quality you want etc). And it was DRM free!
Book Depository and Amazon are great services if you know what you want, but I like to make impulse buys at a real bookstore. Same with records. Slowboat and Unity will always have things I have never heard of that I instantly must have!
...oh and there is a relatively new record store in my neighbourhood; Evil Genius. They have great coffee, lots of rare old NZ vinyl, lots of krautrock, practically nothing up to date or popular and they don't even have a website. I love it.

And what happened with that Homebrew Volume video today? I saw some tweets about someone at the Herald getting fired for being in it? I want to see it!

ARGH! I am coming to this story really late but it's really annoying. Being outside AK meant I had no access to Volume other than twitter and FB. I found the Herald page almost like some sort of practical joke!
Well, I hope they make good use of Sam over at Herald entertainment, he is a smart dude. I think Hugh Sundae has done a great job of their online, just awesome, so I guess not all is lost....buuuuuut as a gigging musician I really do think we need street press.

I am impressed by both the follow through of the idea and the actual photos. Great job.

I keep checking back to see if there is another photo. I'm as hooked on this house move as Game Of Thrones.

I have been using so much data this last year. I once made the 'if you have a plan of 20gig or more you must be downloading illegally' on RNZ and I was quickly shot down, and I do think it was dumb thing for me to say.
My data usage has been soaring since I've been listening to must online a lot. I'm using Rdio, a legit service, and Spotify comes out really soon right? Yay for competition. It really does work well as a concept and it kind of makes the RIANZ war on downloads quite irrelevant.
I'm pretty keen to watch Game of Thrones at this point. I can't believe telstra haven't sorted out iSky to their subscribers.

Newmarket does have Little & Friday. Which is great.
Queen St has about thirty cheap delicious restaurants the cuisine of which my grandmother may have called oriental. This is very great.

Ha, well I don't think you need to do research...music is either compelling or not of course. I had such a different experience to a bunch of my friends at the Fleet Foxes show last month. I thought it was well below par, other people felt it was a religious experience. The drummer did quit a few days later so maybe I picked of on some stage tension.
And I'm sure my judgement on Pixies is entirely clouded by the fact the fact that I have loved everything they have ever done and they have been one of my have bands since I was 13.

Pixies have never had any banter. I think not putting on a show is their way of putting on a show. I found it stark, cold and thoroughly entertaining. The Powerstation show was amazing. I must have watched 10 or so Pixies live concerts (on you know TVs and shit) and they are always awesome. So maybe in a way you are right, they just kind of go through the motions and rely on their fantastic songs and tight, faultless musicianship to get them through a gig without having to dig deep emotionally.
New Order however.....haven't they always been notoriously shonky live?
Bon Iver last night however was totally pro. Good banter, session musician flashiness. Emotionally engaged acoustic numbers. Big triply jams that sounded like 'Inarticulate Speech of The Heart' era Van Morrison.
