That last one does mean that the tax free portion of the employer contribution will go away April 1 next year – in essence National have reduced your KS contribution by ~1/6
it's worse than that. the employer increases their contribution, but ALL of this contribution is now taken away in tax. in combination with the halving of the govt contribution to $520, if you're in the top tax bracket (marginal rate of 33%) it you'll also lose a small portion of the previous 2% making for a net loss from today's setting.
in effect this is a kiwisaver "rich tax", and should be revenue positive. if labour increase the employer contribution, they're really just increasing their tax take.

i think that arguing against capitalism is a little silly tbh. it's capitalism that gave us the computers we have the free time to type on, and all the toys that make our lives easier.
unfettered capitalism in the form of de/unregulated merchant bankers and currency speculators otoh? capital-B Bad. they produce nothing, "add value" in a fashion that is little more than creating inflation, and hoard vast amounts of cash as rewards for their "work".

clue: "savings". some also call it "offset spending".
serious question though: won't this also be revenue positive for the govt? increasing kiwisaver employer contributions is shortly to incur a 33% tax isn't it?

Some work is mind-numbing
not quite sure where i indicated that there is work that is not.
i think gio arrived where i was with this statement:
the value you find in it is largely ancillary to the work itself – getting on with your workmates, establishing a discipline, having a reason, however shitty, for getting up in the morning.
we aren't our work. we are the people in our workplace though.

but these were rescued, stolen from the work itself, not a consequence of work or in any meaningful way connected to the work.
i genuinely think you might be looking for an idyll that has not ever existed. there have always been these awful jobs - it's why we compete to not do them.
