I agree with Keith that the factionalism is hurting the party but I always thought the reason because Cunliffe was not liked all that much was because he was not in a faction and didn't play that game well enough. Phil Tywford is another who doesn't have a block vote behind him and has been on the outer.

I worked on the specials desk at a polling booth in Auckland Central and we received about 150 specials and 64 of those were for Auckland Central the rest were people from out side the electorate. Some has only just moved to the electorate others were visiting Auckland. And quite a few were for North Shore, Mt Albert and Epsom our neighboring electorates (we didn't have companion rolls for our booth)

to be fair that was said in hindsight after his whole team was killed (and this his whole rescue team) because they couldn't get an extraction..
The guilt of having that vote and the lived of nearly 20 men on your hands might make you say things like that

I think free speech is a fundamental right and that the best thing about free speech is it allows bigots to crawl out of their corners so we can shine the light on them and everyone can see them for what they are. Better for us to see them rather than the be tucked away in dark corners and alleyways
I am with you I find it hard to hold that position when nearly 100 people get slaughtered by one of these cockroaches.
Having said that the Norewegain response has been awe inspiring.
A facebook group to support the killers family has over 30,000 members. I can only dream of a New Zealand as tolerant and loving as that.It makes me want to move to Norway!
