Hard News: Welfare: Back to the Future?, in reply to
Ahem. What Mathew said ive been here for quite some time. I was merly pointing out that it's intresting that someone who has been quite critical of the previous Prime Minster's conduct is now using her conduct to defend the current one. I think that needed to be pointed out. /end rant

You know how dissapointed Craig must be in this government when he is saying
"It was good enough for Helen Clark so it must be good enough for Key"
I'm pretty sure Craig would have wanted better than that from Key

Sarah is quite right and I had a simlar though this morning when Phil Goff was on the telly.
National is effectily trying to move the states responiblity for sick people on to employers. There are plenty of abled bodied people who are looking for work so there is not much reason for employers to do this (unless they pay them significantly less)
Oh and National have given them a nice out with the 90 day trial law. Try being somone who has to take time off for sickness getting past 90 days..

I've always been intrested in what happens if you benefit is 'cut' what happens to you. Where do you go when your only source of income is gone? Do you move in with family? Do you become homeless? Do you knock off a liqor store?
Welfare is a saftey net what happens when you take it away?

no member of any FIA affiliate will agree to act in the theatrical film The Hobbit until such time as the producer has entered into a collective bargaining agreement with the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance for production in New Zealand
This is an intresting alert... Seems to me if it does move to Ireland actors will still not be able to work on it untill a contract is written in NZ (unless they change the name of the production..)
And if SAG do remove the alert if it moves off shore arnt they endorsing what is it 'run away' productions?

Many people have commented that Mayor Parker has done a great job and you are correct years in front of a camera don't hurt.
I do have to wonder how hard the job of looking like the mayor is that diffcult. You need to look calm and collected when the cameras role. I would have though looking reassuring would have been a basic part of the job.
Although he does sound so much better than John Key who sounds like a 13 year old kid with a breaking voice.
