  • Hard News: Do you like what we've done…,

Is there a convention for the search function?

I'm guessing it is 'relevance' based, which makes sense, but I'm always searching through to see the posts in the last 6 to 12 months, and that isn't quite as easy.

Could it be both relevance and chronology?

    Well stow the croze!
Didn't someone here also suggest this very thing at some point last year?

    ETA:

Because they sure as hell weren't going in.

    Whimps.

And I spend much of my time biting my tongue to refrain from mocking.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds that show absurdly over-rated.

    Dr Who?

Clearly you are feeling rather incite-ful this morning.

  • Hard News: Holiday Open Thread 1: Beach…,

All our girls got bigger, geared, bikes this year, so have started taking them on rides around Sandringham, Mt Albert and planning routes through to Western Springs, Pt Chev and maybe Mangere Bridge later when they get more proficient, or I get fitter.

Monday night ventured to Mangawhai Tavern with friends to see Katachfire and Black Seeds. Amazing how huge those beach concerts get.

Back at work today. Seems oddly incongruous.

  • Busytown: She loves you, YA, YA, YA!,

Got GotD yesterday. Still reading about the 'New Zealand wars', as described by Maurice Shadbolt, but looking forward to it next.

Jolisa's article sounds interesting, and provocative. Will seek it out.

  • Hard News: Behaving badly at the bottom…,

    From here;

    12. In New Zealand, whether or not a case is heard by a jury rather than a judge alone depends on the type of offence, as well as discretionary decisions by the prosecution and defence. Offences in New Zealand are typically organised into the following categories:
    • Charges that must be laid indictably: these charges are the most serious criminal offences and are automatically tried by a jury.
    • Charges that may be laid indictably or summarily at the discretion of the prosecution (‘summary/indictable discretionary’):
o Prosecutionlaysindictably:trialbyjuryisautomatic; o Prosecution lays summarily: the defendant has a discretion to elect trial
by jury or to remain in the summary jurisdiction (where trial will be by way of defended hearing)
    • Charges which must be laid summarily but have a maximum sentence of imprisonment of more than 3 months:1 the defendant has a right to elect trial by jury or to remain in the summary jurisdiction (where trial will be by way of defended hearing)
    • Charges which must be laid summarily where the maximum sentence is less than 3 months imprisonment: trial by defended hearing is automatic.
    13. There are some limited exceptions to the right to trial by jury. In particular, the right to elect a trial by jury is specifically excluded for the Summary Offences Act offences of common assault and assault on a police, prison or traffic officer.
2 In addition, since 2008, there has been a judicial discretion to require a case to be heard by Judge alone in cases which are likely to be long and complex,3 and cases in which there is a significant risk of jury intimidation.

Emphasis added. Seems somewhat relevant, and indicates not necessarily specific to this case. Not saying I agree, but they could claim to be following process.

  • Cracker: Fa la la la laaa, la la la la., in reply to Robyn Gallagher,

(and of interest to De La sample spotters).

Now there's a meme I can identify with. "De La sample spotters were seen loitering in bars after the Gorillaz concert with little plastic zip-lock bags hoping for prime exhibits."

Hope the northerners are finding some wonder in their Winter-land.

Yes, I couldn't see results on page either. Thought was just me, but apparently not. At first I thought the 1st house had won, and was about to protest, then realized it was just a list of contestants.

Ahh, another neighbour-ish person. We love that house on Sandringham road. They had a little map in a pouch outside this year, and while I was otherwise engaged, the family trekked around all the suburban light-houses in Mt Albert, Sandringham and Pt Chev, and then voted on the best one.

Not sure who won, but Mr Peel gets my vote. A snow machine!!! What's not to love?

    Happy Christmas everyone.

  • Field Theory: Japan Stories: Part One, in reply to Jim Cathcart,

For the reality, witness the right wing bozos rally every weekend while the Chinese tourists indulge two blocks over.

But that was happening in 1991. 'Slow to change' would be another way of looking at it. Witness the longest post-bubble economic stagnation in the history of forever. People have written whole books about it, even.

The Reggae underworld were more my seen.
