Hard News: He Panui: Media Take, in reply to
Yeah, RB mentioned that when it was first announced the media show was moving to Māori.

Given the bilingual intent, in practice, how will you say the title? the two co-hosts simultaneously using different pronunciations of “take”? or only use the te reo pronunciation?

Hard News: The Letter, in reply to
I hope this does burn Labour down to the ground, and flashes back to char-grill National in the process.
Be careful what you wish for. The more likely outcome (comparing and contrasting the media treatments just posted by Rob) is that Labour gets burned, and National carries on doing worse with impunity … ignoring any rise in temperature because that would imply they’d have to openly acknowledge and possibly even do something about global warming.

Politics is a bloodsport, and everyone wants to be in on the kill
Hence your own initial reaction to the letter surfacing (“Cunliffe is toast”)?
I think it’s too strong to label this even as an example of Cunliffe being vague or careless. Gods only know there are more than enough examples of that when he has to explain his policy positions – but this is not one of those cases.. It’s – as you say – an “innocent” letter, sent as part of routine electorate office business, 11 years ago. Meanwhile, Key gets a free media pass every time he can’t remember what he knew about actual deals mere weeks later… -

I offer two alternative options as more likely:
(iii) the minister or his electorate office received a written request from Liu; and/or
(iv) the letter was written by an electorate office staffer (e.g. the guy who still has the computer file!), and then signed by Cunliffe.Really, the only "tricky" behaviour here is releasing this non-story and spinning it as some kind of smoking gun. Look more closely: it's a banana, and it went off 11 years ago.

cuisine list eliminates about half of the metro list
Or the Tripadvisor list. Which just means, it’s more exclusive (a smaller number than any “top 50”), which also supports Craig’s point above about their “demographic filter”. Doesn’t entail a better experience for the average punter.
Though, to be honest, I’d generally seek out the cheap and cheerful over the expensive and pretentious,* so I’m really not in the Cuisine target market.* Yeah, yeah, I know, false dichotomy. Probably. Maybe should re-state as: I would prefer to have low expectations exceeded than high expectations not met.
-
My immediate conclusion from the Venn diagram was that the Cuisine list seems largely a waste of time (as almost all of its names are already included by the other lists). Though, of course, that's an after-the-fact assessment: it’s not clear if there was any directionality involved, if for example reviewers for Tripadvisor picked names from the Cuisine list (amongst other sources).

Hard News: Meanwhile back at the polls, in reply to
I’m sure there’s a constituency out there for a Disenchanted Party
but I suspect more votes would be attracted to a Social Party.(Meanwhile, those thinking of a Public Address Party would be well advised to consider the acronym carefully, regardless of the idea’s obvious merits.)

Rich: “ETS […] has comprehensively failed”
Sacha: ETS was “comprehensively gutted since"True… but more accurately, the ETS was made to fail ( both in its original too-weak incarnation by Labour, and more so in each subsequently weakened revision by National).
As an obvious starter, dairy should have been included at the outset. -
Southerly: Who was George Hildebrand…, in reply to
does anyone else think that the unintelligible signature at the bottom might be ‘Geo. Coleman, J.P.’
Yes, it does look a lot like that. (Though he links the "C" to his first name, and not to his surname, which is a bit baffling.)
