Hard News: Only what we would expect a…, in reply to
Sorry Sacha, it's a failing of mine: I often paraphrase the gist rather than quoting directly. If you don't think those 'general statements' were... kinda personal, then we're obviously reading things differently.
I’d really like to know how far that moral contagion goes
I'm afraid this is one time when I'm not going to ignore your false equivalence bullshit, Craig. That's a load of hooey and you know it.

“he’s that kind of Kiwi bloke who thinks nothing of humiliating his wife in public”
Yeah, OK, I suppose. I just think discussion of this sort of thing slips very easily from 'this has bad implications for voters' to 'he is sexually immoral' and I don't think I want to go there.

being told that Bronagh can get angsty in her own right
There are two issues here. The first is that a) John Key's actions on the radio ranged from 'kinda inappropriate for a PM' (the list of fuckables) to 'downright disturbing' (tacit approval of Tony Veitch by appearing at all). I think all of these things are totally acceptable to be judgeypants about. The second is 'oh, I feel so sorry for his wife', and frankly, I just don't think that's the point of this whole offensive episode. She married that dork, and for all we know they each have a jazzy little celebrity bonk list on the fridge and she isn't humiliated at all. I'm happy to ignore issue two, because I am not in a position to know and it's kind of patronising to assume anything, and I will continue to bitch endlessly about the first issue, is all I'm saying.

No, I'm not KIDDING, thanks Sacha. I agree with Craig that 'I'm just concerned for his *humiliated* wife' is pretty paternalistic. There's enough to object to in his actions - I've been raging about them for days now - without bringing her into it as if we actually give a shit about her feelings.

And you announce them on your PAR show? With an audience of 10s-of-000s?
TBH it really is up to Bronagh to find Key’s public celebrity-banging list offensive or inoffensive. I just said to someone else that if I were her I’d be humiliated not because of the list, but because I was married to such a huge fucking DORK who thought it was Prime Ministerially endearing to be snarfling it up on the radio, but I suppose that’s another issue altogether.
ETA: And of course if my husband decided it was appropriate to be regularly interviewed by Tony Veitch, we'd have WAY more to discuss than whether he thought Liz Hurley was hot.

our illustrious PM will be having a weekly slot with Veitch
My gag reflex is certainly getting a big workout this week. Do you think Key would change his mind about doing this if I threw up on him?

I will treasure the concept of proletarian falafel forever!
OMG, I had also forgotten the genius of Stephen's bourgeois legume croquettes as discussed in the Leguminous Ontology Review! I should have that tattooed on me somewhere so I never lose it again...

Hard News: "Orderly transition" in #Egypt, in reply to
Otherwise it starts at “been exceptionally dimwitted” and goes downhill from there.
On the other hand, we *have* learned that he thinks Liz Hurley is 'hot'. So there's that.

Oh, Sam, I had almost forgotten. Let's you and I make a solemn vow, right here and right now, that we will never let 'a priori conception of [noun]' die. :)

If I had to hang out with one of them, I think I'd prefer the Ecstasy Supplier to the Vicious Backbreaker. (To paraphrase Sesame Street, some of these things are not like the others.)
