It would be very funny if Clark sacked Peter Dunne instead. After all, Peters is only challenging policy, whereas Dunne is publicly telling the PM to sack one of her ministers. Which one is the worse lese majeste?

Any criticism of immigration is deflected with attacks on the character of the critic
No, any criticism that targets the ethnicity of the immigrants is.
A debate about numbers and economics is legitimate. Anti-immigration rhetoric rarely aims that high.

A small contribution to an informed debate would be for TV news to stop illustrating every story on "Asians" or "immigrants" with stock Queen St footage. Yes, I know it's just next door to the newsroom and the crew can pick up lunch while they're there, so it's all very convenient, but ... most of those people on your screen aren't immigrants.
I don't think even Peter Brown is demanding we stop letting East Asian students and tourists come here and go home again.

Rules of internet forums, 36(3), sub-section 5:
Thoughtful and admirable opening posts shall generate fewer responses, due to the absence of wrongness with which to take issue, and the sheer dullness of repeated agreement.
Therefore threads shall slide down and off the page, and gain fewer readers than they deserve. They can only be saved by the internet's most loyal citizens, the pickers of nits.
So, I say Cyprus is not in Asia. Everybody take sides NOW.

Now Roger Douglas has posted comments on a Kiwiblog thread.
So that's Hide and Douglas over there, and Jim Anderton on here. Who's going to get Helen? And who will be the first politician to get told off by a moderator?

It may be a rival radio station, but I'd suggest you try and get hold of Roger Douglas' interview with Perigo on Radio Live this morning.
Thursday PM: Key dismisses Douglas.
Friday AM: Douglas dismisses Key.Either they're both Oscar winners, or they're heading for a helluva fight.

Our stance against it varied greatly, but we have very significant trading relationships with South Africa.
Heh. Those 'variations' are no longer in the history books, don't you know?
There was a clip on the news last night about NZ's history of protest, including the 1980 Olympics boycott. The boycott of the 1976 Olympics - and the country that prompted it - was not mentioned.
Yes, NZ (more accurately, some NZers) took a stance on international issues at various times. But this "we lead the world" stuff is a bit grating.
