That said: There were patches when they both seemed rather… vague on the details of their own policies. Really not an option, guys.
I lay the blame on both Hosking and whoever set the format with ad breaks. Hosking's inability to stop them talking over each other so much and the short time available per answer gave little incentive to dwell on specifics.

Once again, Harold's reporting of poll results leaves a lot to be desired:
And while a slim majority believe the saturation media coverage of the claims in Nicky Hager's book was justified, a slightly larger majority say the furore was either unjustified or that it's time to move on.
Given the article doesn't show the questions actually asked, figuring out what this possibly means takes a bit of mental gymnastics.

I’m not a fan of Hooten’s but my impression from his pieces in NBR and comments on Nat Rad is that he has consistently been critical of Key and Collins. Maybe he believes in our democratic institutions enough to not want them undermined?

I’d rather know what candidates intend to do so this can’t happen to the same extent in the future, no matter who’s elected.
Yes, although from my observations, the more scope left for a complex answer results in wriggling and evasion.

Some decent commentary from Anne Salmond.
They must take urgent steps to clean up politics in New Zealand, and to restore democratic checks and balances to the political process. It must adversely affect the lives of politicians, and make them wonder what happened to their own ideals, and how they became complicit in such a dirty game.
It would be nice if at every electorate candidate meeting this year, someone asks each candidate if they would promise not to engage in negative attack politics whether by proxy or not.

Yes. When I first read the article with that veiled threat by Slater at the end, I did wonder. Quite self-destructive on Slater's part if he did release any of Fisher's emails but after reading 'Dirty Politics' trying to understand his motivations only leads to a very dark place.
