This has turned into a really interesting thread.
While pollywog's innocent victim routine seems a little rehearsed, I thought that some (minority) of the responses kind of backed up his argument. Just saying.
I blame The Winds.

He didn’t really finish Dancing with the Stars either.
My take on the ad when I saw it is perhaps they used him because he didn’t finish. But hey; he gave it a good go. Agree with Kyle and others that for most people getting yourself into a state where you can contemplate attempting something like that is success in itself.
Bagging Rodney for not finishing is a bit like saying Muldoon had a silly hair cut.

'Course, you all know where this is going
Actually, at that stage, I feared the worst.

Hence it was Purple and Orange vs Red and Black
So they made Auckland dress up like Cantabs. Nice touch.

Hey, at least England and Argentina have an easy road to the top 16, right?
Yup; but not seeded to meet until the final. That was one of the first things the English twitters checked after the draw for some reason.
Here’s a great photo of Slovakia qualifying (in Poland)

Leg Break, good work by you and the team on the Guardian coverage. I had it on together with the TV coverage (which provided ample time for checking the net, as Monsieur FIFA explained the draw once more, slowly
Cheers; it did feel like being in a massive pub with everyone talking at once at times. Not necessarily at my sharpest at 0700 on a Saturday either, but it was good.
Monsieur FIFA was hilarious; almost s hilarious as Beckham's get-up.

Simon, don’t think the Aussies will lose 3 out of 3, but they won’t make it through.
Poor Australia. For so long victims of cruel twists of fate. Allocated play-offs against the 5th South American team; hoping for Venezuela and getting Argentina etc. And now the draw from hell.
There’s Ryan’s old team-mate Santa Cruz who plays for Paraguay. And he’s pretty handy...

Say what you like about Henry, but the ease with which he gets under people’s skin is quite something.
Unlike Laws, say, who works really hard at it.

In England, Paraguay have long been regarded as the worst examples of South American hackers. Could be an interesting match.
Wasn't Charlene Theron truly dreadful?
