  • Hard News: Sunday's Perfect Storm,

it's sad they're caught up in the same old fashion industry bullshit

Eh ... are we talking about the same people? I've only been to a few of their fashion shows over the years, but I do recall over the last 20 years they pioneered (in NZ) the use of non-standard models ie 'uglies', drag queens, and black african models.

Whatever issues you, Jackie, and others have with the Global Fashion Complex lets not visit them upon Francis and Denise just because Russell said he was putting their daughter on one of his panel discussions ...

  • Hard News: Sunday's Perfect Storm,

Russell: Our panel discussion this week focuses on the sexualisation of teenagers in the media, with reference to Miley Cyrus and Zippora Seven. The panel is Pam Corkery, Pebbles Hooper...

    Craig:
Might be rather more interesting to have Pebb's mum and dad on, and ask these two healthily meaty designers whether they ever could have squeezed themselves into the outfits they send down the runway.

    Andrew:
As for Pebbles - well for starters the fact they named her after a Flintstones character suggests volumes - her parents have never been known for good taste and sensitivity to parental mores as the "future Porn star" t-shirts demonstrated.

Interesting. Russell wants a panel discussion on the sexualisation of teenagers in the media, but some PAS readers want to 'bash' the parents of one prospective panelist before the show has even been aired - or even filmed for that matter! Is this now Talkback radio, or what?

  • Hard News: In tha Hoodie,

I haven't got a problem with people who wear hoodies in the privacy of their own home or because its cold - but wearing them because you identify with the pop culture or people ten years or more your junior, smacks of Peter Pan and midlife crisis.

Any chance you can post a link to a picture of yourself Andrew? I'd love to see what you look like, so I can pass judgement on the cut of your __ Fashion Police Uniform__.

But you're right. My Peter Pan complex prevents me from aging gracefully/fashionably. Here's where I get my midlife fashion cues from:

  • Heineken... and Chris Knox!,

Oh for a time machine to go back to 1980:
"Keep at it Chris, radio might not play your music now, but one day your songs will be used to sell loaves of bread and beer to the masses!"

I wonder how he would have responded? (Probably by backing away slowly from the nutter claiming to be from the future... )

  • Flying Nun Moments,

As I stated earlier, Russell was always cordial with me, and as he's made clear, he was only acting on what he'd been told so no apology is necessary.

But how sad is it that I actually remember the Happy Days episode you're referencing?

Ah, those were the days ... back in the mid 70s ... :

Dad was home around six in time to watch the 6.30 news, mum made dinner, we all ate it, and by 7.30 (after watching a half hour regional news bulletin) we were all watching TV together as a family.

These days one or both parents aren't home for dinner, which is served from mainly pre-prepared ingredients, and afterwhich the kids have retreated to seperate rooms to do one thing or another, with all kids complaining bitterly about their woeful lives.

  • Hard News: In tha Hoodie,

It includes chats with Kevin Black, Mikey Havoc, Nick D and

Damn that young Nick Dwyer for ursurping my title! (Done more than I did, mind)

A few of us at Public Address will be wearing hoodies for Hoodie Day, Friday May 30

I didn't realise there was an office - I presumed you ran this empire from home! (unless you mean you, the wife, and the kids). I'm wearing a Kangol Hoodie now, actually.

    a piece of early-00s fashion

Some of us early adopters were wearing them in the mid 80's.

Anyone over the age of 30 wearing a hoodie looks like a sad douchebag - ... - we can drink in bars and own property, yay!

Careful who you're calling douchebag, spermbucket. I'm over 40, wear a hoodie, AND own property!__ (and I've a good mind to come down to ChCh, buy your house, and kick you out on the street)__ :)

  • Indiana Jonesing,

    But isn't Bush a a complete bastard

    and

McCain is also running the appeaser line.

It appears the Repubs (GOP) are going all out to smear Obama as 'Anti-Israel' and therefore 'Pro Terrorism'.

John 'I Got Swiftboated' Kerry has jumped to Obama's defence in HuffPo about another outrageous smear:

I've been around politics long enough to know that it's a contact sport. Words will be abused. Phrases will be taken out of context.

But the latest distortion from the GOP, frankly, shouldn't give us all pause -- it should spring us into action....

Rep. John Boehner and Rep. Eric Cantor - senior leadership in the House GOP -- decided to ignore the actual meaning of English words and simply invent something Barack Obama didn't say...

...how can we actually have a debate on foreign policy, if the other side simply makes up statements on which to base phony, contrived outrage?

You need to follow the link to understand the whole issue. As __The Daily Show __proved the other night, voters really are easily misled by smears (they ran a news clip of Dem voters articulating why they wouldn't vote for Obama - he's black and he's a Muslim) (and am I wrong to think those voters wouldn't know what the word 'articulate' means?)

  • The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins,

    That clip is fanfreakingtastic Andrew!

Nimoy looks like he's on E, but it's possible he's just grinning cos he knows he's going to get laid. (Why should Shatner get all the chicks, right?)

(Shatner so hot he's ... smoking!!)
