Eastbound and Down
+1. Kenny Fuckin' Powers: sometimes when you bring the thunder, you get lost in the storm.
I'm really looking forward to eventually seeing Louie. When my aunt gets her VCR organised.

I gave up on Friday Night Lights on NZ tv. They showed series 1 at 11pm or something, but I think they showed series 2 at... 1am or something?
It was on after a *fishing show*, which our MySky always caught the last few minutes of. FFS, indeed. I suppose I'll have to ring up a kindly aunt in America and get her to send me a VCR from now on. I need my Landry fix!

Sorry, Russell, but it is 2010 and we live in a world of finite resources.
Yeah... although I don't think it makes much difference what we, as consumers, do when we purchase things, does it? Because the problem is bigger, and systemic. You would have to have much wider, sweeping changes on the governmental/multinational corporation level. Our consumerist angst is basically pointless without that. (She says, bleakly.)
Never underestimate the ability of numbers types to twist and fudge and generally distort any existing concept you may have had of any aspect of income and expenses.
You guys aren't helping me much with my 'isn't capitalism just a big pyramid scheme?' problem, I must say.
PAS is perfect width for scrolling on an iPhone too.
Yes! I've always appreciated that.

You'd probably need to be more specific about exactly what you had in mind to be taken more seriously.
I can't be messing about with pesky things like details, Ben! I've got an entire global capitalist apparatus to destroy from within! (Right after I buy a second-generation iPad, you understand.)

Hmm. I think I kind of was (talking about capping margins). You see, I am not an economist, and we seem to have all kinds of arcane rules about how economies work, and I don't really understand why one rule is perfectly acceptable and another rule makes everyone go all 'pffft! that's ridiculous!' I'm mostly idiot and not very much savant. :)

Muldoon's wage and price freezes
Heh. My mum, FWIW, loved the price freezes. 'When you went to the supermarket you knew exactly how much everything was going to cost!'

By the Ministry for Setting Everyone's Margins?
Why not? Why is that such a weird thing to ponder? (I mean, I think it's kind of a weird prospect, too, but I don't know *why* I think it's weird. So I've probably been brainwashed by our evil capitalist overlords into thinking that it's weird.)
ETA: I now place a moratorium on me using the word 'weird' in my next 100 PAS posts.

I didn't say there should be *no* margins. I just said 'why would it be so terrible to have margins limited?'
-
It also seems germane to point out that Microsoft's margin on the sale of a copy of Windows is somewhere north of 95%.
Oh, I have no horse in this race, Russell. I think they're *all* greedy, exploitative assholes. :)

I must say, although I'm not having a completely dreadful experience with my upgrade, the launch time of the camera on a 3G running iOS4 is just ridiculous. Come on, Apple, I have a self-imposed quota in place: I have to take 400 photos a week of my child! And he's very fast-moving! By the time the damn thing starts working whatever brilliant genius thing he's done that I just *had* to capture is well over.
