ScottY responds to inept Stuff reporting on knife crime.
According to the Herald, the Government plans to amend the Crimes Act to increase the maximum penalty for possession of an offensive weapon from two years in jail to three.
Ok, fine. That's 'doing something'. But it's hard to see how it would have prevented any of the five attacks that are listed directly below that. Or any other knife assault.

To continue the Tarzan and 'what sci-fi film would you like to see made?' theme, some of you might be interested to know that 'John Carter of Mars' is due for a 2012 release.
Gio will be especially thrilled to know that the original story is cited as one of the inspirations for 'Avatar'.
Metal Fist
Awesome, Sir Peter dude! Top it off with some umlauts!

Hell's Angels would be good Jackson fodder
'Wild Hogs' had at least one legal run-in with the modern-day Hells Angels around trademark infringment, so I'd be very surprised if that one ever got off the gorund.
The Jack Nicholson 'Hells Angels on wheels' is supposed to be fairly OK. It's been on my 'to watch' list when I get around to it.
I've also seen a live action b/w tintin a good few years back. Can't remember when or what the title was, though...

Rubbish. It's beer o'clock Brown-side, you're allowed at least one cheap shot!
Ah, but Russell doesn't do cheap shots: his oft-stated preference is for high-quality (and appropriately priced) malts.
He's also mentioned a recent enthusiasm for bespoke clothing.
Clearly an aspiring member of the Boss Class, and not to be trusted, Comrades.

Personally, I think all these wine puns are something of a Merlot point for PAS. They're really Champagne-ing me.
I come here for the Claret-y of thinking. For robust, full-bodied debate, with fruity overtones at Hart.
You might be thinking that any Port will do in a storm, but frankly, it's not Tokay.

A few point to consider re: the 'maps' analysis. Sorry if they've been raised already - I don't have time to read all to comments.
1. It's very hard to move a coalmine offshore.
2. the miners unions at the time of the strike had large memberships - it was very unusual not to be a union member.
3. The miners enjoyed support from large swathes of the UK population, who provided, among other things, monetary and material support when strike funds started to run dry.Contrast and compare...

Well, I was OTT, and then follow-up crabby to boot, so apologies to one and all and especially Petra.
I'm glad for the sake of people whose livelihoods depend on it that the films will be made here.
I think Key played the whole thing very nicely (although I don't like the result - labour laws under attack, taxpayers money, yadda yadda).
But the whole deal with the union incompetance and the usual suspects who've crawled out of the woodwork to throw around accusations of scabbery and chardonnay socialism......well, that angried up my blood. But I'll get over it as soon as I get to the bottom of this bottle.

Do condoms come in hobbit-size?
How does proportion work when you're only three foot seven?

And once again urgency rears its head so that National can expedite the resolution of a "problem". How many unintended consequences can there possibly be in ramming through a law to clarify, supposedly on a strictly sectoral basis, the employee/contractor distinction? I mean, it's only one of the biggest issues confronted by the ERA and they still have to decide each case on the specific facts.
National couldn't even get the law right on trying to disenfranchise all incarcerated persons, and one would've thought that that language would be moderately straightforward. Now they're dicking around with a complex aspect of employment law literally overnight.Fucking awesome.
This pretty much sums up how I feel at the moment, so I'm going to repeat it in it's entireity.
I'm decidedly more than "queasy" about this. It sets a bad, bad precedent.

Screaming because your effete, atrophied, office-softened hands can no longer wield a shovel?
Well, yeah, obviously. Not rich enough to be one of the Boss Class and buy my own serfs, but too office bound and downtrodden to have the powerful physique of the true working man.
Guess I'm just one of those useful idiots I've been hearing so much about over the last few days.
A frustrated political necrophiliac. The never-ending wonders that the interwebs throw up.
And you don't think unleashing a zombie Michael Savage on the beehive would be a good thing?
