  • Hard News: Misconnection,

we were won over by the card on the DVD: "Best Godzilla movie EVAR!!

    Dude you got scammed!
The best Godzilla ever is the original Japanese version (without Raymond Burr over the top). Although G v Hedorah (the Smog Monster) was always my number 2 choice. So I suppose it was still a good buy.

The worst is, without a doubt, Godzilla vs King Kong.

  • Island Life: What it don't get, I can't use.,

They've been asked to pick their favourite book

Clark: "Fou de fa fa" by Flight of the Conchords

Key: "Fast Car" by Tracey Chapman

And then I get fired for picking songs, not books

But the last Grand Slam we won with almost two completely different teams playing consecutive games. Middle of last year I would have rated our B side to beat any of the above, not so much this year with the exodus.

    yeah that was sweet

Well, I did say "if I thought it would work for us".

    I totally missed that :P

Here's a possible Friday afternoon bit of fun: you are a media manager for Key (or Helen Clark). They've been asked to pick their favourite book, but they're too busy in Parliament and delegate the job to you. Yikes! What would you pick to convey the right image of your boss? Something local, not too edgy, not too niche? What would it be?

so many possible joke answers, so I'll go straight

Clark: "Fou de fa fa" by Flight of the Conchords
Because it's believable and earns brownie points.

Key: "Fast Car" by Tracey Chapman
You don't expect it but then you think about and think "yeah it could fit".

Of this110 players we select 60 elite players. The players are selected on the basis of being part of 2 equivalent yet mutually exclusive All Blacks squads.

I don't want to even think of the logistics of that selection process. "Sorry Dan, you don't get to travel to Europe this year, just Canberra"

An A team, and a B team. One could do Europe, the other could trip around the Pacific/Argentina. One plays Saturdays, the other Sundays.

But then there looms the prospect of losing to England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, etc and often. that idea would lose support faster than a pulled-down maul.

Also I imagine it would be the team touring Europe that would play on the Sunday (because I'd like to see you try that in the Islands). But because of time zones, they could still play on Saturday, but it would be screened here on Sunday.

Returning to the overseas players versus current all blacks idea: The dropkicks made a list

  • Island Life: Abusage,

what's a small fact? Inquiring minds need too know!

The example I can think of is:
Factoid (American version) = Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system
Fact = Jupiter has a diameter of X kilometres. When compared with all other planets and plutoids in the solar system Jupiter has the largest diameter.

An American factoid is basically a soundbite version of a fact with no caveats or other facts required. Hence they quite quickly become an English factoid

That said, I'd like to see a game between the overseas-based All Blacks and the NZ resident ones. Not too shabby a team there.

Sweet Jesus Balls! That'd be awesome! Even the overseas non-All Blacks could front a decent squad... that might just become a Dropkicks post today.

while the 3 Wise Men wouldn't admit it unless it was a cold day in hell, I thought we missed Jerry in the weekend.

The old Jerry though, not the Jerry of this year's Super 14.

Song one: 'Girls, Girls, Girls' by Jay-Z.

    And I'm OUT. :)

20 very dull* songs in and I finally get 'Opiate' by Tool, which should do it

*I figured Mos Def and Le Tigre were borderline

Ah the old (avoids Noizy's glare) Canterbury defence.

The Crusaders had the same problem a few years ago against (I believe) Waikato. They repeatedly had no defensive player to the right-hand side of the ruck, and the halfback snuck through again and again.
