  • Hard News: What to Do?,

like the 'let's kick criminals in the nuts' one from a few years back which was actually three separate questions all run together.

I deliberately spoiled my ballot on that one, it was so absurd. From memory, I wrote "refuse to answer -- question doesn't make sense" on the form.

  • Hard News: What to Do?,

It's a leading question designed to drive people into an answer.

You know what made me happy?

Gordon Campbell actually using the term "begging the question" correctly in his recent column about the referendum. It's an ill wind etc ....

  • Hard News: On the Waterfront,

None of these were anywhere the entertainment landscape of the 20th century, but once they arrived there was one stadium able to cash in on it.

I felt the same way about the would-be Stadium New Zealand in Auckland -- although I'd have been inclined to add value with decent conference facilities. Far more so than the Wellington stadium, it would have worked for a wide range of social activities. Imagine a wedding in a room on the Eastern side, looking out to the Gulf, for example.

And I do suspect that, even given the qualms about its cost now, Dunedinites will find plenty of uses for a stadium with a roof.

  • Hard News: Ups and Downs,

To be fair, Craig, you have more than once announced that you're not going to venture on the (allegedly) distasteful circumstances of, say, Trevor Mallard's marraige breakup.

It might not be your intention, but you can't blame people for thinking that you're mentioning something by declaring that you're not going to mention it.

now that's got imagination! I think every roundabout should have a bath. It would make Auckland a tourist mecca.

Damn! I didn't even know what a creative genius I was until you pointed it out to me.

  • Up Front: NSFW,

I do sometimes wonder about to the extent to which the rules on YouTube ("OMG! Boobies! Ban!") have come to define a more general NSFW standard. It tends to be very conservative about human bodies, and very liberal about the most vile and hateful material.

  • Up Front: NSFW,

(Whether it's porn or not, according to some people, depends entirely on whether that standing figure is male or female.)

I thought it was pretty, either way.

The peasants like Loigue anyway... and football (but that's mainly the immigrants)

Very true. Eden Park is quite full of toffs.

  • Hard News: On the Waterfront,

As for the topic, it's like all the fools who talked down the Wellington stadium ...

My favourites were the ones who insisted that it should be in Porirua.

Now of course, the proximity of the stadium to Wellington's leisure precinct is almost universally regarded as A Great Thing.

Could this be the right point to note that I've not been trying to sell that bill of goods here or anywhere else?

    Granted.
