  • Hard News: Women and their representations,

Jean Batten ? Celebrity culture wasnt just a recent invention. After the war she only made one appearance in NZ and lived as a recluse overseas- not that there is anything wrong with that

Back in 1170 there was a similar dispute:

Archbishop Mallard remained steadfast in his refusal to recant. This news threw Queen Judith (still in France) into a rage in which she was purported to shout: "What sluggards, what cowards have I brought up in my court, who care nothing for their allegiance to their lord. Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest."

So off they went to search for for Archbishop Mallard and Bishop Little

They arrived at Canterbury during the afternoon of December 29 and immediately searched for the Archbishop. Mallard & Little fled to the Cathedral where a service was in progress. The knights found them at the altar, drew their swords and began hacking at their victim finally splitting their skulls.

  • OnPoint: To Whom it May Concern,

The government is reconsidering its policy on Tobacco and will be recommending they convert their factories to canning the laughter of our children. We know there is a worldwide shortage of canned laughter, only held in check by the dominance of TV reality shows. However the new show The GC was greeted by laughter, which indicates what the audiences are really after.
We dont want the IRB or even Durex to be telling the world what we are good at, we want to be known as the first choice for young effervescent canned laughter

  • Hard News: The Great Unwinding,

This post by 'powow' on the debatingchambers website seems to give an opposite point of view than that given by Mediawatch

  • Hard News: The Great Unwinding,

Considering that even witnesses's stories can be confused, embellished or contradictory this is par for the course. Any viewers who think that all the truth is being told in the first reports must have a low credulity level.
This seems to be just another journalistic spat over terms such as witness, exclusive or even 'incredible' which have lost most of their original meaning.
I suppose we can be grateful they weren't reporting live from the carpark of the Afghan embassy in Canberra.

  • Hard News: The Base, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Some people still dont get it .
Fay is one member of a consortium of buyers which includes iwi, for twelve individual farms. Whether he is a good farmer or not, the law doesnt require him or any other NZ citizens to get permission to buy the land.
It would seem that Shanghai Penxin have skirted around the requirements of stewardship of the land or even dairying experience by getting the government to run the farms and milk the cows for them.

  • Legal Beagle: MMP Review #3: The Submission,

Currently the Bundestag has its largest parties as the CDU at 27% and the SPD at 23%. All smaller than the NSDAP in all of the elections of 1932-3. I cant see how a threshold would have changed anything in 1933 or as I have shown give a more stable two party system today.
