I've started deleting the troll's posts because they are, frankly, inane. And not made in good faith.

Emma, feel free to do the same.

  • Hard News: Stop the Enabling,

The equivalent post-trial 'sentence' is a discharge without conviction. It seems unlikely in this case.

Duh. That's what I meant. I think the judge has indicated he was prepared to consider it.

Chuck, there is no kind way of putting this.

You are a loon, and I do not have the time or patience to run your errands.

I suggest that instead you read Tapu Misa's brilliant column on the topic.

I don't expect that it will actually get through to you, but one can only hope.

The point of the state should simply be "sign the contracty bit and give it to us". I see no need for anyone to have to manage that process - if you choose to have Father Whosawhatsit do it then all power to you.

Quite. Otherwise we'd be facing the prospect of actually banning Father Whosawhatsit from being a marriage celebrant.

That wouldn't seem to show any respect for personal choice.

Having played in the web-serving space for 13 or so years, I'll state with a degree of certainty that log stats are only useful for ...

Are services, such as Google Analytics and Nielsen, that use tracking code on third-party websites any different?

Nielsen and Analytics are generally very close for all the sites I know about, so whatever they're measuring, they're getting the same results.

Also, our log stats say ~85% of our traffic by volume is now MP3 files. The PA Radio podcast is a rather vivid long-tail story.

  • Hard News: Advertisements for diversity,

The day I watched this Media7, TV3 did a live cross to a reporter standing in the dark with the Sky Tower behind him, so he could introduce a piece on the Super City. He could have been standing in front of one of the Daily Show's blue screens for all the good it did.

You know, we toyed with the idea of doing a Daily Show-style bluescreen "cross", but after Simon's taped piece it seemed a bit much.

  • Hard News: Advertisements for diversity,

At the very least the clip is dated, at the worst gratuitous.

I agree: and it's out of the context of the montage in which it appeared, which noted the (at the time) fresh contention that the pictures were bogus.

I'll have it seen to, thanks.

We don't make the programme promos or control the content, but I've already emailed my producer to point out that we need to change that one.

  • Hard News: Stop the Enabling,

I think the "good parent" thing is a bit of a red herring, really.

Mason presumably loves his kids, and for all his bluster, thinks he's doing the right thing.

But he seemed positively proud of that phrase "angry dad mode" as a description of his public loss of control and clearly regarded hitting and kicking his children as the best way of providing guidance.

Simon Mercep's alarmist line about how Mason could be facing two years in jail was yet another stupid diversion from the core of what happened: a father lost the plot in public and threw his small kids around and hit one of them. He was sufficiently off the hook for a police officer to call for backup.

Frankly, I don't mind if he gets diversion, so long as he gets some help with that anger and stops acting it out on his small children. Or, at the very least, starts recognising it as a failure of his own parenting and not some sodding badge of honour.

I really cannot understand why anyone would think otherwise.

But remember: he's a good father.

Russell, is that an exact quote or you taking journalistic licence as usual?

Chuck, for goodness sake, it's a quote from your post this morning :

On watching the interview I am of the opinion that Mason is a good honest man and a good father.

I'm afraid you're far too crazy to have an actual discussion with ...
