  • OnPoint: Plague, Famine, By-Election,

Here's the transcript. Lee was frankly ghastly in that interview.

PAUL Did you say the other day law and order is not the priority for people of Mt Albert?

DAVID I said that when I'm in the streets talking to people their key priorities is the tunnel, they desperately want the tunnel to be put through because they're really worried about the fact that there could be a six lane highway running right through the middle of Mt Albert.

MELISSA But you’ve only been there for the last week as he said, he's only come back just a week ago, I've been there for longer than that and people are telling me – people are telling me that they're concerned about safety issues, I mean as you know Paul I have been a victim of a home invasion, I had a gun pointed in my head, don’t tell me that law and order issue are not actually a big issue for people of Mt Albert, just look at what happened in Napier.

PAUL Well to be fair to Mr Shearer he has had a bomb go off 25 metres behind him when he was sleeping.

MELISSA True, but I mean maybe that is the reason he doesn’t think law and order is a big issue in Mt Albert, but it certainly is, 50,000 law and order issues, I mean reported cases in last year alone in Auckland City, 50,000 and don’t tell me 50,000 is a lot of numbers.

So Shearer's a slacker on law and order because he's used to Baghdad styles? Did she really say that?

  • Hard News: When that awful thing happens,

And then there are the idiots who want to romanticise the killing, like the neighbour who painted "LEGEND" on his roof.

Labour's existing electorate organisation has given it a head start in at least one way: Shearer seems to have twice as many hoardings up as all the other parties combined -- many of them in prominent corner positions on private properties.

Labour also seem to be the only party aware that Pt Chev is in the electorate.

How much impact do hoardings really have though? Guess we'll find out.

  • Hard News: Grown men might weep at the rucking,

It was great to see current/potential AB vs AB. A great crowd too, with the Waikato Stadium booked out by Wednesday.

Harrumph. I'm glad I didn't waste my evening watching all of the Blues' game.

Just had an 6 minute on-air chat with Gary from Radio ZB Newstalk about blogs (following up on the letter I had in the Listener). I gave big ups for PA and Editing the Herald. I wonder who would be listening, on a Sunday morning.

Lots of people, probably. Thanks for the kind words, Geoff.

  • Hard News: Grown men might weep at the rucking,

The only investigation that needs to be done is into the hearts of men who would decide to leave a shot man lying in the driveway for a day.

Even allowing for a certain theatricality, that's an absurd statement.

What you're saying is that you'd rather allege cowardice on behalf of the man's fellow officers than have a look at how Molenaar came to be sitting around with an arsenal, waiting to flip his lid.

It's evident from police statements that courageous attempts have been made to remove the body.

That's a particular horror which had slipped my mind. I suppose the overriding concern has to be nobody else getting killed, though.

It's one of the unsettling elements of rational policing -- a slain cop lies there for as long as it takes. The implication has been that they tried to remove the body under cover of darkness, but the shooter has night-sight.

"So, ha ha. I was describing this very blog post in the supermarket tonight (produce section), and happened at that very moment to see my go-to wine guy buying mushrooms."

The Dunedinistas have put James on a contract to bring PAS to the people not privileged enough to have internet access.

    No thanks necessary Russell.

It's like he's not just retweeting me, he's actually acting out the blog post IRL .

    That's ... art.

Or maybe the "we're not a UNIversity coz the rotten government didn't let us and made us stay a TECh".

That's the one that's in the electorate ...

It was a very good Media 7 last night but I did harbour a hope that there might be a lovely botulism bug lurking in the food that P. J. O'Rourke's CIS audience was scoffing.

Heh. Whilst acknowledging his influence on the use of humour in political commentary, I don't think O'Rourke has been good for decades. Every soundbite from that speech sounded to me like a shallow punchline.
