at least until you discover that it had been built with concrete mixed in with beach sand.

Far out. Really? They did the roughcasting around the skirts of some houses (and the odd patio) like that in Pt Chev and people think that was bad.

Haste is good? Clarity takes time. One suspects this editorial may have been written by committee.

Or by John Roughan. He can sometimes give that impression all on his own.

    Here we go.

Rodney Hide is trash-talking the North Shore mayor. See:

Hide rejects accusation he misled John Key over super city.

Rodney vs Every Mayor But Banks is shaping up as ye olde clusterfuck.

We are just showing off. We do that.

I was on the verge of a gentle admonishment about it ...

  • Hard News: For Good Friday,

There are really good reasons to explore these circumstances, and they have nothing to do with spookiness. There is mystery associated with bush & sea - because we dont know enough yet-

And the closer we look, the less we know we know. The nature of nature is spooky at its most fundamental level. It offers and promises phenomena that do look a lot like magic in the context of the understandings we use to be human.

The remarkable thing is that we live in an era where our ability to make measurements has become so good that we can more confidently theorise about once-unknowable things. It's a fun time to be a cosmologist.

But that still doesn't mean that it's not rational, salutary and fulfilling to experience awe and wonder at the scale and complexity of the universe. It is awesome.

I realise that the reasons people fall in behind Brian Tamaki are not exactly the same as those I am awed by the universe, but it still puzzles me that people would choose the former over the latter.

I think it's probably time for everyone to back off on this one. I think we've got all the actual information out of it that we're going to.

    @Sam:

Once Don has somehow remembered and provided an estimate headcount of both sides that you'll accept as accurate, he'll then have the fun of picking over, with you, each attendee he names, so as to determine their industry "stake" and thus their entitlement to be listened to on copyright matters.

    Damn. You're good.

Oh, Te Standard makes the same point.

And it is a very sound one. They bother me as much as any other group of righteous ideologues.

Even leaving aside Jennings' participation in such a rotten economic phenomenon as the Russian oligarchy, his pronouncements seem banal to me. It really is a bit like the 90s, when the Roundtable would get airtime for any old fringe character it cared to fly in.

I'll just use boring old links next time. I'm clearly incompetent.

No, you're too clever. The secret knowledge is that you only have to paste in the URL.

    And here is your YouTube:

You'd have to address that question to Clare Curran, who called the meeting.

I think invitations went out very widely, and it is to Ant and Roger's credit that they were there. By the same token, it can hardly be the fault of the anti-92A group that so many of them cared enough to turn up.

As for Ant's demeanour, I wasn't there, but he came across a bit grumpy on Media7 too. I would certainly understand that he feels exposed.

It occurs to me (as usual) that you don't actually want a discussion. You just want to start a fight, to nag people into responding to you angrily so that you can claim some victim status that you've been disrespected.

I let it run because it can sometimes generate something interesting -- I found your summary of the meeting useful, for example -- but it really does get repetitive.
