Oh, and may I nominate Anton Oliver for Dork of the Day for this OTT military metaphor
Well we do a Dick of the Week on the Dropkicks and I think that those headlines will be mentioned.

"A good team can be beaten by bad officiating; a great team overcomes it"
I'd say that that is sports analogy of the worst kind. I will use the example of Tonga who were robbed of a possible victory over South Africa because the ref called time while there was still half a minute on the clock.
Many of the rules in rugby are subjective to the referee (when has the ruck formed, time before the ball has to be used in the maul, how long a player has to roll away, whether the ball is out of the ruck) and many are non-subjective (foot on the line, offside, hands in the ruck).
I would say that "a good team can overcome poor subjective refereeing but no team can overcome a ref who can't get the real stuff right."
And if the teams are evenly matched (as it seems they were yesterday, remember it only came down to a missed conversion) a poor call or two can swing momentum.
Can the refs be held accountable? Yes, of course they can. Each (top level) ref is judged by their peers and shown the mistakes they made after every match.
ps. I don't like the ref but I'm not blaming him (any more)

Oh so not cool. We got this on the Dropkicks:
lolz, totally deserved
Learn to be less cocky even if rugby is the only thing your nation hasAnd who bothered to quote Deaker? I'm surprised he didn't blame the Lesbian Cabal.
Oh and Russell, dont watch the replay, all you'll see is more reffing blunders (offsides et al) and the All Blacks not playing at top pace.

One more ref bash - His advantage was very short and occasionally non-existent. At one point he had advantage to the ABs, they never crossed the advantage line, lost the ball and Barnes said "play on".
As was said earlier, I'm sure we'll all be over come Tuesday

England and France both winning - who'd have thunk it? - what odds Scotland to fly the flag as well?
I now predict an "all-upset" weekend with Argentina beating England in the Final.
At least now I can stop being so nervous :)
I know, no more ulcers for me :)

I think McAlister went for the dropgoal because the ref had his arm out for advantage. We should've just dropped the ball and given Evans the chance to slot it over.

It's kind of hollow watching all of the All Black-based ads on TV3 too
At least no-one venting on the Herald thus far has blamed Graham Henry
You haven't read Stuff yet then?
<sour grapes>Wayne Barnes also happens to be the guy who was awful while reffing Tonga-South Africa. His calls will have to be looked at by the referee's committee and I doubt we'll see him again at this cup (then again I was surprised to see him here)</sour grapes>

Y'know I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Henry.

Never mind that last post.

Just quietly someone has taken over rugbyworldcup.com with an advertising site. If the All Blacks are gone no reason to hold onto the website, right.
