One of the most impressive bits so far was the Romanian marathon runner who went miles in front halfway through. 'Cos she'd done all that work on her own I really wanted her to win - the pictures as she ran toward the stadium made it seem like she was about to be ran down any minute. Plus she had a running style that made it look like she'd be faster sideways than in a straight line.
But yeah, Saturday night was rilly exciting. Mahe looked like he'd just done one of those O-week jugskull / eat a pie races, didn't he? And stalking fans - here's me with the Evers-Swindells who I 'met' through work (embarrassing poster has been pixelated, that doesn't mean I photoshopped myself in). The chaps among you might be interested to know they are *gorgeous*, along with being really nice and good at rowing and that.

Thanks - here's one more. He hates that Mac and the attention it sucks that could be lavished on him. He's called Biscotti, and he's getting on a wee bit now, he's about 12.
You should definitely leave the vacuuming for a wee while yet.

Sorry to hear that - we have a Birman too, he's fantastic and I can't imagine not having him around. I hear what you're saying 'bout white fluff! You'll be still be finding bits for years.

Cricket does commentators a lot better - John Parker (probably the best comments guy I've ever heard), Jeremy Coney and Mark Richardson spring to mind, but that's becuase they're witty, articulate guys who just so happen to be ex-test players more than anything else. I find Ian Smith relentlessly negative about the NZ team.
Merthens would be good. Justin Marshall would be shocking. That Stevo guy that does UK Super League is magic.

Stu Wilson is the Emmett Smith equivalent here. He is just an appalling, appalling guy on the TV, whenever he starts talking you see the other pundits start looking around the studio, eyes glazing over etc. No wonder they stick him on the sideline most of the time.
I play football and cycle at the moment - I also do golf, tennis and used to play a lot of cricket, my favourite sport to *play*. I like to have a working knowledge of my limitations, but don't reckon it helps sports blogging, unless you picked up an injury that laid you up for a month or two.

I tuned in for the opening ceremony at 9.30 on Friday night (I don't get out much), only to find it didn't kick off until after midnight. And up 'til then, programming would be largely montage-based. If I wanted montages, I'd watch ESPN. Or Rocky.
The *actual sport* we're being shown seems minimal, with all the sponsor's messages, ONE promos (but I'm already watching it! RIGHT NOW!), commentators' previews and studio douche-ery.
No-one has anything nice to say about One's coverage, do they? Nathan Rarere once said he loved the Olympics, cos it gave him a chance to use the 'One' button on the remote. Harsh, with fairness around the edges.

The thing with Keith Quinn is the less you hear him, the better you remember him to be. His "Lomu! Uuuuuuuugggggh!" is still one of the best bits of commentary I've ever heard.
But now... he's a shell of a man. Same goes for John MacBeth, although I can't get as worked up over him, he always looks SO happy to be there, in a 'just-got-back-from-me-frontal-lobotomy, what the fuck's going on?' kind of way.
Post-Sky TV One has no real sports coverage to speak of, their commentators just roam the corridors like migrating humpbacks trying not to get in the way most of the time. That's why they've put the Sport On Sunday band back together. We just need Graham Thorne back behind the mic and we're set.
