I know it was male-dominated back then
Robyn, surely you've asnswered your own question, to be fair. Russell says "They all have their own stories to tell of our early internet". Later internet, far more women's voices.

I do like the word "dictionaristas". Sounds more exotic than "wordgeeks".

Refute has a totality about it that implies proof- which is why people will use it if they can get away with that, because it makes their denial sound more final.

I refute those alligators, sir. Utterly.

a victimless crime
Other than undermining public trust in our justice system, of course. I would have thought this one was high profile enough to at least warrant a minor investigation before deciding to do nothing.
Not as if the facts are hard to verify, and it was a quite deliberate act that seems to have been done with the intent of (allegedly) perverting the course of justice. That's serious, whatever the actual outcome was.

That's knowledge, bro.

Crikey, you mean the first time I'm first, it's with such a trivial comment.

You, too, may be thinking that even if the client doesn't know what "refute" means, surely his lawyer would.
Professional journos no longer seem to understand that "refute" is not a synonym for "deny", so I'm not holding my breath for student media to do any better. However I agree that any lawyer should be ashamed of such loose language.

No wonder people take sport far too seriously.

I'm calling bob a spammer
... with the further possibility of driveby online infections, which would be kinda ironic don't you think. Hence me no click that link.
Jan, Bob's phrasing sounds spammy and you'll notice it's different than how most posters here contextualise links. Put that together with it being post number one, and my instinct agrees with others. Add in reports that the domain registration is similar to that earlier link and I'm nearly 100% sure.
Of course if we're wrong then Bob's due a few beers at the next gathering in Dunedin or Welli or wherever. Providing he washes his hands.
