They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers.
Isn't that a Gershwin tune?

I'll just say that there's no magical tipping point where a lie becomes the truth through sheer repetition.
So now every time someone prominent is quoted in the media, we have to assume it's inaccurate until proven otherwise?
That sounds like it could get a little messy, Craig.

Oh awesome! Things you never see as an audience-person. The view from the stage is fabulous. And a close-up panther!

Are you feeling lucky?
Well, do ya, punk?

Cos it is nice not to talk once in a while.
What is this 'not talking' of which you speak?
ETA As suspected, a party with drunken lawyers followed by Jarvis Cocker just about did me in, so there was no way I could have post-show-PASed. I have no idea how I feel hungover without drinking a drop, either.

it's PAS heresy to suggest that I was overweight because I ate badly and didn't exercise and lost weight by changing that, but it does happen to be true
Sigh. That's such an annoying mischaracterisation of my 'side' of the debate. Of course that happens. (I'm actually married to someone who lost significant, permanent [I think, probably, it's been over five years] weight by changing diet and exercising.) But the point is that it's fantasy to assume that bootstraps-ism will 'make everyone thin' and 'cure obesity', because it won't.
Weight gain is a pretty common side effect of a fair few commonly prescribed substances. I know I gained a lot of (near impossible to shift) weight on the oral contraceptive pill
That's so true. I not only went up two bra sizes but two everything-else sizes as well, and it never went away.
Fresh foods are always more expensive, because they have such a limited shelf life compared to processed.
Canned and frozen things (beans and vegetables, say) can be quite nutritious, though, right? And they're reasonably affordable. (Of course, they require some work to make into a meal, which is why people who are time-poor as well as money-poor don't necessarily use them.)

though major bummer that Danielle won't be in attendance
:)
Well, even if I didn't have two other engagements, I couldn't drink, thanks to my parasite. I would need some alcohol for courage-making purposes, because I am a scaredy wimp. (Hey 3410, how will everyone recognise you? Are you planning on entering the room while prone?)

Oh Heather, thanks for remembering animalistic penis-brains! I was trying to call it to mind the other day and couldn't for the life of me.

Ben, I... don't even know what to say. We're not overthinking the problem. The point is that, in apparently willing collusion with the diet industry and the peddlers of high-fructose corn syrup, we have been *underthinking* the problem for decades and our dumb-as-hell approach *isn't working* for most people affected. (Despite your assertion that the obese have passed the issue on to doctors, 'personal responsibility' is the most popular idea in the dieting world, you know. It's like a Randian wonderland in Weight Watchers. Hardly any of the millions of western people currently on calorie-restrictive diets would thank me for telling them their diet is unlikely to succeed longterm.)
The comments on "death squad" - this sort of scaremongering has handicapped US reform. Lets not go down that road here,
I was kidding. I do that.

Aw! I don't want just women to talk about this! That's how we all ended up in this mess in the first place. :)
